Bushu:LOL. how many people really say this during the admissions process?
you have go to be kidding me, I think 50% of the applicants say that they are career switchers(I am talking about 20ish schools and FT MBA).. more than 30% say that they want to change both function and industry, where as 50% say that they either want to switch function or industry. |

not quite, everybody has GMAT,and if you are a career switcher - it demonstrates your interest to the admissions comittee Either way, there is no point in going for it if you have no ineterest in world of finance. |

I know there are lot of avenues to learn or immerse ourselves in Finance. kaani unless you've a target you'll (atleast myself) never spend time on those. So ila CFA ki ani prepare ayithe then I'll clear level 1 by end of this year (which might help me in future) and atleast I know that I spent my time on somthing useful instead of sitting in the office and browsing every day |

Curriculum material nammukuni passa ayina vaadini nenu ippati daaka choodaledhu, go with Schweser - it is kind of market standard. Check Elan Guides, as well, they seem to be the best bang for your buck |

Bushu:how?
1) Admission - It helps in admission, for people who have been out of school for a while, to demonstrate their academic ability. 2) Course Work - Level 1 covers most of the FSA,Econ,Corp Fin topics covered in most business schools. Level 2 is Mini-case style, application of the concepts learned in level 1, requires same level of analysis that you would do in any case study in MBA and that too with limited time. Though critics say that CFA encourages a formulaic approach, as opposed to MBA supposedly encourage to think out of the box, I feel that CFA is a solid foundation of knowledge and Investment framework. Unless somebody has passion for world of finance, I feel it is not worth the effort, as itt akes atleast 250 hrs of prep time for each level. |

Level 1 consists of two sessions of exam, each session with 120 questions. Topics/Subjects Covered : 1) Ethics 2) Quant (TVM & Stats and a bit of technical analysis) 3) Econ (Micro and Macro) 4) Financial Statement analysis 5) Corporate Finance 6) Equity 7) Fixed Income 8) Derivatives 9) Portfolio Management 10) Alternative Investments(real estate, Private Equity and Valuations) None of these topics are tough to understand for a person with average intelligence, it is just too much of information to carry for an 8 hour period. |

The basic requirements for participation in the CFA Program include holding or being in the final year of a university degree (or equivalent as assessed by CFA Institute), or having four years of qualified, professional work experience in an investment decision-making process. To obtain the charter, however, a candidate must have completed a university degree (or equivalent) and four years of qualified, professional work experience, in addition to passing the three exams that test the academic portion of the CFA program, as discussed below.[6] Who is this DB member? |
