For all you know, it could be just another one of its deadlines but the buzz is that the party has finally decided to bite the bullet on Telangana. After the last round of byelections in Andhra Pradesh, where the Congress drew a blank, a senior non-Congress leader from the state was asked by a member of the Congress High command in Delhi, what he thought of the future of the Congress in Andhra Pradesh. "Only the final rites have to be performed," was his terse reply. The CBI chargesheet in the disproportionate assets case, that names Jaganmohan Reddy as accused number 1, is a feeble attempt to take the political enemy head on, in what is seen as a do or die battle for the Congress.
