Masularex:slightly offending and intriguing! man needs a feminine side to be completed? complete of what? actually that discussion would lead us another path! "purpose of life!" later may be... just for the sanity of this thread
Offending - really ???? Intriguing part -briefly - The creative, compassionate, emotional side is the feminine side , the ida sakti without which even Shiva is shava - you need both to work in unison a la Ardhanariswara...in scientific terms get in touch with your right brain- that may sound less offensive to the primal male

Mostly self taught- his backpack is always full of doodles - cartoons , manga characters he comes up with and so on But then I put him in a class to learn more techniques - he learnt using charcoal in the class - the eagle you saw was a month into the class when he was 13 I think Seeing the older one and me , the younger one joined the class too - and enjoys it

Conquas:I am trying to understand the context of those paintings also...
Cool - each artist has his/her own language/grammar, so to speak ...as you see many works of the same artist over time you will see the patterns and that along with the title and any notes/quotes by the artist help in understanding the context... Personally, I do not read other people's interpretation till I have formed my own...then you can read for alternate interpretations ... for e.g.ekkado swirls are an indication of Van Goghs mental status annaru - for all we know it was a consious choice to texture it that way...maybe he liked them, I do as I said earlier - I like flows You can interpret a swirl as infinite expansion(looking outward), converging to a point(looking inward) or as that mental status interpretation suggests 'churn' Trying to recreate the artist's mind is an exercise highly prone to error The foolish man seeks happiness in the distance; the wise grows it under his feet : James Oppenheim |

abstract art ante.... meeku oopika vunte chadavandi... leka pothe lite.... what i understood from this is.... it's not only how you felt by looking at the art ... you have understand the context.... ---------------- Abstract paintings are different. They have designs, shapes or colors that do not look like specific physical objects. As such, abstract paintings are a lot harder to understand than representational paintings. Indeed, when you look at an abstract painting, you often have no idea what it is you are actually seeing. Let's see if we can make sense out of this. In general, there are two types of abstract paintings. The first type of abstract painting portrays objects that have been "abstracted" (taken) from nature. Although what you see may not look realistic, it is close enough that you can, at least, get an idea of what you are looking at. Although the objects in the paintings don't really look like lilies, or water, or clouds, they are close enough that you can get a feeling for what you are seeing. http://www.harley.com/art/abstract-art/monet1.html A second type of abstract painting, sometimes referred to as "pure" abstract art, is even more obtuse. Such paintings do not reflect any form of conventional reality: all you see are shapes, colors, lines, patterns, and so on. http://www.harley.com/art/abstract-art/hahn.html As you can see, nothing in this painting is recognizable. There are no people, fruit or even water lilies. When you look at such art, it is natural to wonder why anyone would bother to create such paintings in the first place. What could the artist possibly have in mind? In some cases, the design itself might be pleasing to the eye, and we might look upon the painting as nothing more than a decoration. Most of the time, however, this is not the case. Indeed, a great deal of abstract art is not particularly pleasing to the eye. Moreover, why would an artist spend so much time creating a mere decoration? There must be something more to it. The truth is, yes, there is a lot more to abstract art than what meets the eye, and to see why, we have to consider the basic purpose of art. To truly appreciate a work of art, you need to see it as more than a single, isolated creation: there must be context. This is because art is not timeless. Every painting is created within a particular environment, and if you do not understand that environment, you will never be able to appreciate what the artist has to offer you. This is why, when you study the work of a particular artist, it makes sense to learn something about his life and the culture in which he lived. Although the qualities of a painting depend on the skill and desires of the artist, a great deal of what you see on the canvas reflects the environment in which the art was created. As an example, take a look at the following two paintings. all opinions expressed here are mine.. |

Conquas:when you listen to instrumental music.... if i know basics of the music.... I can rate that music by "notes"....
But someone who does not have a clue about the notes can enjoy the music too...even lil kids ? how are they rating it ? If I have to give a visual parallel - you look at a face and you feel it is pleasant/appealing ... you don't parse the information and rate it - the nose is on third of the face , face is an perfect oval etc.. before you decide you like it kada You may find reasons later why you liked it , but that comes after the first response The foolish man seeks happiness in the distance; the wise grows it under his feet : James Oppenheim |

Anand_n:Chinna logic miss ayyaru - Art appeals to emotions/feelings. When you listen to instrumental music - what do you understand/interpret - it is just how you feel on listening to that music - you either resonate emotionally or don't.

Anand_n: Chinna logic miss ayyaru - Art appeals to emotions/feelings. When you listen to instrumental music - what do you understand/interpret - it is just how you feel on listening to that music - you either resonate emotionally or don't. Technique/skill/meaning appeals to the intellect.. Judging , interpreting, understanding is an exercise to rate artists and put a price on them - it is purely a ranking activity...and has no bearing on the emotional appeal of the art. Now art tnat is trying to tell a story is different - then the meaning needs to be clear
