Yep, I also learned only a few weeks back that there was a lot more involved in the whole episode than what was revealed by Indian and Britain(Telegraph) media. Apologies to Norway. This is the Nth time I learned the same lesson.:-) Research thoroughly for a balanced view and don't let media fool with emotions. |

Too much media masala - i don't believe the matter was as trivial as feeding by hand but they seem to have swung to the other extreme ... Senapathy:Even Arunabhas, the uncle , was quoted as saying that the children seemed happier with their foster parents (who are also Indians), while worrying that he may not be able to give the same support to them in Kolkata.
Senapathy:The children were apparently subjected to violence or had witnessed severe violence at home. The Bhattacharyas had explained the traumatized condition of the children as a result of them being separated from their parents.
Senapathy:Sources said the domestic condition of the Bhattacharyas was no secret to the Norwegian authorities. According to Gunnar Torensen, head of CWS, the parents have been under intensive counseling for months before the state intervened to put the children in foster care. In an interview earlier this month, Toresen described the children as seriously "damaged" , suffering from "emotional detachment disorder".

New Delhi: The custody case of two children of a NRI couple living in Norway is turning into case of allegations, counter-allegations and denials. After reports that the children's father Anurup Bhattacharya had accused his wife Sagarika of marital violence, he has denied the allegations and also blamed the media for distorting the facts. ------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------- latest twist .. chi .. denemma .. edi correcto telidu .. but I blame the couple for their choices .. |

Tilak: Maya Kasaeva, a protestor, said that she has been deported to Russia after her son was taken eight years ago. She wants her son back.
India made a mistake supporting the couple, no doubt. But, Norway has a problem, for sure. What kind of non-sense is this? |

As confusion mounted over the future of two Indian children in the custody of Norwegian Child Welfare Service, protests were held in different Russian cities by women whose children were taken away from them in the Scandinavian country, a media report said. The protests against Norwegian Child Welfare Service (Barnevernet) were held Monday outside Norway's embassies in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Murmansk, and Arkhangelsk, reported The Nordic Page. The case of the Russian women was similar to that of an Indian couple whose two children were taken under protective care last May in Norway on the ground that they were not looked after properly by their parents. In Russia, the demonstration took place to mobilise support for Russian parents who were separated from the guardianship of children in foreign countries. The protesters demanded the release of 15 Russian children who have been removed from their Russian parents and placed in Norwegian foster families. Maya Kasaeva, a protestor, said that she has been deported to Russia after her son was taken eight years ago. She wants her son back. The protesters said that the only solution to this problem would be the signing of an agreement between Norway and Russia. http://www.dailypioneer.com/home/online-channel/top-story/51 396-russian-moms-protest-norway-taking-away-their-kids.html |

Next time some Indian is in trouble abroad, we should remember this case before barking against the foreign country. These parents have brought shame upon our nation. The Media, The Couple and the Norwegians took Indians on a negative misguided emotional ride. |

Senapathy: It had been argued that Norway's skewed laws had allowed the children to be taken away from their biological parents. The Bhattacharyas had also said their children had been taken away because of cultural differences - such as, the fact that the children were fed by hand, or that they slept with their parents. This was greeted with shock and disgust in India.

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/New-twist-in-Norway -child-custody-case-as-father-files-for-separation/articlesh ow/12349300.cms NEW DELHI: Misfortune and uncertainty are dogging the two children - Abhigyan (3) and Aishwarya (1) - separated from their parents by Norway's Child Welfare Services. In a dramatic unravelling of the case, the children's father, Anurup Bhattacharya, has filed for legal separation from his wife, Sagarika. Not just that, he now wants the kids to remain in Norway and their uncle, who was to get their custody, no longer wants to be their guardian. The fast-paced developments took place after Anurup filed for separation, alleging he was being repeatedly beaten by his wife. Possibly fearing estrangement from her children, Sagarika is learned to have threatened to sue the uncle, Arunabhash Bhattacharya, if he were to take the children's custody and bring them to India. This made Arunabhash decline their guardianship. The scheduled March 23 hearing of the case at a court in Stavanger, Norway, has been put off. The children will remain in the care of CWS instead of being handed over to Arunabhash as per an agreement signed by the parents, uncle and CWS. Two diplomats, Banashri Bose Harrison and M Gandhi, who were supposed to be present in Stavanger for the custody hearing on Friday, are cancelling their travel. 'Kids happier with foster parents' The entire case was upended this week with Anurup revealing the deep fissures in the marriage that caused the Norwegian government to take the steps it did in the first place. Anurup went to the extent of clearing child welfare services' name, deflected the blame to Sagarika and her "severe psychological problems". Even Arunabhas, the uncle , was quoted as saying that the children seemed happier with their foster parents (who are also Indians), while worrying that he may not be able to give the same support to them in Kolkata. Sources said the domestic condition of the Bhattacharyas was no secret to the Norwegian authorities. According to Gunnar Torensen, head of CWS, the parents have been under intensive counseling for months before the state intervened to put the children in foster care. In an interview earlier this month, Toresen described the children as seriously "damaged" , suffering from "emotional detachment disorder". The children were apparently subjected to violence or had witnessed severe violence at home. The Bhattacharyas had explained the traumatized condition of the children as a result of them being separated from their parents. The Norwegian government and the MEA, who had taken up the expenses for this case and frequent travels by the family and officials, will no longer do so. The new circumstances throw new light on the case, and make the vilification of Norway in the Indian media and public discourse unfair. It had been argued that Norway's skewed laws had allowed the children to be taken away from their biological parents. The Bhattacharyas had also said their children had been taken away because of cultural differences - such as, the fact that the children were fed by hand, or that they slept with their parents. This was greeted with shock and disgust in India. I am struck by the lightning of love and burnt beyond repair - Florentino Ariza |
