Sensexxxxx:

scenario is say..we have db links from DEV db to QA db....if i want to retain these db links in the new DEV db to the new QA db...whats the process?

DB links owned by that schema user should come over "as it is". As long as your QA DB link is same, the imported DB link owned by schemaX (from DEV A schemaX imported into DEV B SchemaY) should work.

i am not the one who does this? DBA will do....but vallu roles, dblinks gurinchi edo cheppi...I have to recrate them annaru..so checking if get exported or not in the dump ani?

they clearly said they gonna create dump and give to the other DBA and he will imposrt the dump in the enw server....

old server is 10g and the new one is 11g...

i am documenting this process with the steps invloved...so need this info...

If it is done by other DBA, you have to be very specific.

Here is a process that can be very clean.

- create new schemas, users and roles keep empty db ready.
- create the dump including grants
- import the db including grants

If you want to export only a specific schema to a dump file, make sure you include "INCLUDE GRANTS ..." in your expdp command.

if it is 10g or 11g, are you using imp or dmp?

there are different options on the command line to drive this. you can just give as simple command as dump all or you can get specific.

If you have taken export dump using FULL = Y, create new schema on target database and use datapump remap_schema. Grants/roles should come over with the datapump import remap_schema. If you want to export only a specific schema to a dump file, make sure you include "INCLUDE GRANTS ..." in your expdp command.

More detail on datapump INCLUDE/EXCLUDE go here: expdp/impdp help=Y or tahiti.oracle.com and search for expdp/impdp include/exclude. Finally oracle did good job with tahiti.oracle.com (one place doc center)
