ter the just concluded assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh and other states, there is a talk going on in the state political circles as to who is a better leader: AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi or YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy? Though there is no yardstick to compare both the leaders, as Rahul Gandhi is considered to be a national leader, while Jagan is confined only to Andhra Pradesh, the comparison is being made in terms of popularity and charisma. No doubt, Rahul has his own charisma as the scion of Nehru-Indira Gandhi family. When he goes into villages, people come in large numbers and compete with one another to shake hands with him. And he loves to be among the people always. Similarly, Jagan also has his own charisma as the son of late Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy. And he, too, is a crowd puller and people come in tens of thousands to watch him. And as part of Odarpu Yatra, he came closer to them. But there is a big difference between the two. While Rahul has failed to convert his charisma and popularity into votes, Jagan appears to have the ability to create a big vote bank for his party. His ability to convert the popularity into votes would be known in the forthcoming by-elections and the political observers say he has that ability. While Rahul so far has the clean image, Jagan bears the stigma of corruption. But if one takes the capability to win the seats as a yardstick, then undoubtedly Jagan is a better mass leader than Rahul Gandhi, observers say. | ||
