http://www.bizjournals.com/triangle/blog/2012/02/cancer-rese archer-potti-loses-his-sc.html Dr. Anil Potti, a disgraced cancer researcher formerly with Duke University, now has another âformerâ on his resume after the Coastal Cancer Center in Myrtle Beach, S.C., ended its relationship with him, but the center says it has nothing to do with Potti's past. While at Duke, Potti touted some of his cancer research as breakthrough, but other researchers could never duplicate the results and prestigious academic journals later retracted articles that involved his research. The Triangle Business Journal has been reporting on Potti for months, and he was recently the subject of a 60 Minutes piece. After leaving Duke, Potti resurfaced with the Coastal Cancer Center, which has declined comment several times. In a press release, Dr. Lawrence B. Holt, Jr., president of Coastal Cancer Center, says the center ended the relationship with Potti not because of his fraudulent research, but because of a stir caused by CBS News ' 60 Minutes piece. âDuring the time that Dr. Potti has been with us, he has been an exemplary physician whose caring ways have made him extremely popular with patients. We will miss him,â Holt said through the release. |
