The Andhra Pradesh High Court suspected foul play in allotting land for the proposed Vodarevu and Nizampatnam Ports Industrial Corridor (Vanpic) project. The court on Wednesday found that more than 300 acres of patta land was allocated to the Vanpic project by the authorities without initiating proper land acquisition process. The court noticed this fact while dealing with a petition by D. Koti Reddy of Prakasam district against M/s Auriferous Aqua Farms Ltd (which is under liquidation).

According to the petitioner, he purchased 350 acres from the official liquidator through auction conducted in accordance with the directions of the High Court. The petitioner submitted an application before the revenue authorities for survey and demarcation of the boundaries of the land. When there was no proper response from the authorities, he approached the HC seeking a direction to the authorities to conduct a survey of his land.

The authorities submitted in their affidavit to the HC, that 350 acres purchased by D. Koti Reddy was part of land orders for alienation in favour of M/s Vanpic Projects Pvt. Ltd. They added that Vanpic has paid ex-gratia as fixed by the government to the patta lands. The court wondered how private land can be alienated without a notification and directed the official liquidator to implead Vanpic as one of the respondents in the case. The court issued an order by suo motu impleading the district collector as a party in the plea.
