Kaiser,,' I do exactly the same. When I do wire transfer from my BOA to SBI(NY branch) which is local, BOA charges $20 dollars Local wire transfer is not free A diamond with a flaw is better than a common stone that is perfect. | ||

kaiser, Now registering with the NY bank is not an option as I donot know how long its going to take for activation and verification. I have a form downloaded from SBI for wire purpose which I need to take to my BOFA and they will do the wire using SBI NY branch as intermediary bank. Its going to cost me $30 Last time I wired from online asnd it was treated as internation wire and charged $45 for wire. technically if you have more than $10000(check with CPA) in your foreign account you have to report to eye are es and report interest earned on it to eye are es. if you have account in CITI NRI they are inter connected,citi can send you 1099 int, if you can keep it out side of NRI/NRE accounts even though you need to report to eye are es in case if they track you can still escape.. check with your CPA.. cherapakura chedevu. | ||

let it be. as long as its post-tax white money, there won't be any issues at all.
if you are investing somewhere then its OK, but for FD NRI is best. if you make FD in NRI, there won't any tax on interest earned. Where as there is tax on interest earned in resident india FDs. | ||

if you are sending your money to NRI account don't keep it in NRI account more than 15 days. take it out and put it in regular account or transfer it to your parents account.. you will be fine. cherapakura chedevu. | ||

if you have Statebank account here in ny just send them certified check or wire money($30) into their account. you will get current rate plus you can receive your money in a day or two.. so far this is the best method i found.. cherapakura chedevu. | ||

that is correct. There is BSA(Bank Secrecy Act) and CTR(Currency Transaction report). default threshold amount limit is $7,500. If there is a transaction more than $7,500 then it will trigger the Banks to keep an eye on that transaction. | ||
