Ashton:One more question: If you take out your money from your Roth IRA account before 59 1/2 yrs will there be any problem ? Like suppose, I want to make a down payment before buying a house or a condominium and I want to remove my money from the account and use it for the down payment. Will there be any problem ?
roth ira means... you are investing after tax money in that ira... allways... any time you can take your principal with out any charge or fine.... but when it comes to ... if you earn anything on your principal amount.... if you would like to take that amount... there are certain rules.... if you are paying for downpayment for your house first time..... there won't be any penalty... if you are going to take out enterain money out of roth ira... including your return on your principal.... you will endup paying taxes and penalty on the earnings.... i didn't do it... please check with fidelity... if etrade/tdameritrade are offering 200 free trades.... just go for it... anyways please check with fidleity once again.... i amy be wrong too all opinions expressed here are mine.. please follow at your own risk.... Disclosure: I have no positions in any stocks/options mentioned, and no plans to initiate any positions within the next 72 hours.

Conquas:
Thanks bro, that helps a lot. Not all the brokerage firms are FDIC insured, only reputed firms are. http://www.fool.com/foolu/askfoolu/2002/askfoolu020111.htm Also there are some other brokerage firms like etrade/tdameritrade who are offering 200 free trades if you open an account with them...Not sure if I'd be really interested, but I'll go with Fidelity or Vanguard. Thans again. One more question: If you take out your money from your Roth IRA account before 59 1/2 yrs will there be any problem ? Ashton:1) Is it a good idea to keep your money in Roth IRA account when it's not FDIC insured ? mee money once stocks/etfs/mutual funds meedha pedithe... adhi fluctuate avuthundhi... okavela money pothe fdic ki sambandam ledhu... just close your eyes and invest it in fidelity... they are good. you don't have to pay any transaction fees for some mutual funds in fidelity.... i think big brokerge companies anni... fdic insured ee kadha.... 2) Can I change my Roth IRA to a different brokerage account in the future? If so, will I lose any of my contribution ? you are not going to loose anything. for exmaple... i have roth ira account in fidelity.... if i would like to change it to scottrade roth ira.... i have to contact scottrade and inform them... i have an account in fidelity ani... they will take care of it.... they won't charge anything for that change... 3) A friend of mine suggested to invest in Roth IRA with ETF's than a mutual fund... But ETF's lose their value over the time. What do you suggest ? here is my strategy.... Not aggressive - All mutual funds in 401k... (my opinion) semi- aggressive - All etfs/stocks etc in roth ira...(my opinion) if you are below 35 years of age... good to be aggressive in your investment startegy... may be others have different opinion.... if you buy etfs... you need to check your account regularly.... if you are ok with it.... go for it.... but don't go for leverage etfs.... just go for secotor etfs.... we can discuss about this in some other thread... 4) Which brokerage account would you recommend ? (Charles Schwab/Fidelity/Vanguard/ ???)
just go blidly with fidelity.... they are awesome.... check with vanguard too.. they have some transaction fee mutual funds... i used to have roth ira with fidelity.... year back transferred to scottrade roth ira... compare fidelity and vanguard.... who ever is offering roth ira account for less transaction fee and free transaction fee mutual funds ..... just go with them... (please check with other guys too.... they will be having a different opinion all opinions expressed here are mine.. please follow at your own risk....
