Is it just plain luck that we were born into circumstances that allowed us to build a life of comfort? What makes the other half any less deserving of many of these material possessions, (which many of us consider essential) or, more importantly, tools for self-development (education) or self-preservation (healthcare)?

A meaningful experiment indeed! but IMO, vaalla education level ki idi antha ordeal emi kaademo! their perception will be totally different and hence they were successful in this experiment.

If they do not use this experience to change anything about their lives it will not even help them...

If they do use this experience, the empathy and value of that experience will transmute to everyone they come in contact with...and help many people..

I have a grandfather , who after one experience , gave up his govt job and managed expenses at a very low level so he could work all his life to help the less fortunate ...

Both guys view on life is laudable to begin with - i mean, one was IB and other was at MIT and they just left to contribute to home country.. Lot of people in their position fantasise on doing such thing but very few will have courage to go all the way..

This experiment will further enrich their lives..Gandhian approach teeuskunnaru.. hope they continue to live in india and make some good contributions.

Bushu:

agreed. in addition, they always had a rosy ending in mind. they knew this was only a temporary phase and so the level of motivation to continue in that deprived state would be high. a regular BPL person would NOT have that luxury. nice experiment, but the design was flawed.

True - for them it was a temporary phase so easier to get thru and also the knowledge that if things go seriously south , they would get help...

Its may just be a challenge for them - but in the process it impacted their view of their life...The kudos are for them undertaking that challenge and learning experience and they did it as part of the UID project that is discussing fundamental rights...

Most of us come from a pretty secure background. aa thought process of living within rs. 20 and all the ideas one needs to come up with, is just spooky. Also, these two guys had the benefit of education and some level of intelligence - they would have come up with creative ways to survive; something that the BPL public does not have.
