Praja Rajyam Party president and Tirupati MLA K Chiranjeevi, who has not stepped into the Telangana region after he took pro-united Andhra stand after the December 9, 2009 statement of union home minister P Chidambaram, got an opportunity to visit at least a part of Telangana finally. On Wednesday, Chiranjeevi left for the historic Sammakka-Saralamma jatara at Medaram in Warangal district to pray the deities, despite the fact that the people in the area are hard-core activists of Telangana statehood movement. However, Chiranjeevi did not dare to go there alone, but he only accompanied Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, who formally inaugurated the jatara. Obviously, there would be unprecedented security for the visit of the Chief Minister and the police forces kept the devotees at bay to enable the CM and others to have a hassle-free darshan of Sammkka and Saralamma. And Chiranjeevi, too, had the opportunity to worship the deities. The police arrested hundreds of Telangana Rashtra Samithi and JAC activists and leaders well in advance in order to ensure that they would not create any problems during the visit of CM and Chiranjeevi. And the people, too, were kept at bay for nearly two hours till the VIPs completed their darshan. |
