NBK, even by his own fans admission, was a big competitor in the mid 80s but faded out of the competition league soon after Venkatesh and Nagarjuna made entrance. AB can't be termed with South Indian actors. Star worship is bigger in south than North, though the latter has a pan-India audience. That's why I always laugh when media asks questions about multi-star films. A big star in South doesn't need another star to carry the weight of a film. Coming to number one, in a time when an actor is only as good as his last hit, there is no such thing as number one. For instance, MB has huge acceptance among women and youth. Chiru was termed number one biggest of consistent superhits throughout his career until Gharana Mogudu. From the mid-80s till GM, he was giving consistent hits. I am using Chiru in comparison not to peeve MB worshipers, but because he was the last number one in Telugu cinema. The tag is useless these days. When did IH determine number one? If so, non-existent, faded stars will be competing with current top heroes for number one! The larger portion of movie goers are mass audience. Jr at 27 has more than enough time to reach top status, though already, he is there. But of these younger, under 30 heroes, we can't judge who will become a sensational star. Not yet, at least. In other words, Hollywood will bypass all India stars like Hrithik, Ranbir and come for our Mahesh. Mahesh babu would be long gone if not for being SSK's son. Luck. He was fortunate.
