Chirumahishriya:n my first post.I said I'm not too sure about this..because..in the below link: http://www.valueresearchonline.com/story/h2_storyView.asp?st r=10928 it's mentioned that NRIs can invest in Mutual Funds... I sent an email to Value Research asking for clarification about this -- they replied once...but it wasn't clear.... So..I do not really know..if we, NRIs in USA, can invest in Mutual Funds in India or not
If NRI's living in the US invest in the Indian Mutual Fund market, they invite the PFIC rules for IRS taxation purpose. So if you state to the IRS that you invest in Mutual Funds in India, then you would loose more than you gain. You can invest in Indian stocks using PMS. I think the minimum balance required here is 25 lacs. But again, this is not something that you can completely control by yourself as the broker manages the money for you. The safest route is having Mutual Funds in your parents name and having you as nominee. Do not get into buying ULIPs. Nenu already chethulu konchem kalchukonnanu. It does not make economic sense to get into ULIPs. If you have more questions or doubts, feel free to ask me. www.ValueResearchOnline.com is the best free analytical tool for picking the right funds. |

Cool_indian:India lo NRI's kooda invest cheyyochu
mama..an NRI (staying in USA) can invest in ULIPs...but not in Mutual Funds. I was clearly told this by the ICICI Executive and also Citi Bank Executive ..when I visited their branches in February. NRIs in other countries..for example UK...can invest in Mutual Funds...and ULIPs...without any hurdles... |

Well...your parents can do the investments in INDIA.if you want.. Yeah...As far as I know NRIs can not invest in Mutual Funds (I am not very clear about this....I heard different things about this). If you're interested to invest in the Indian Mutual Funds...I suggest the following: 1. DO NOT RUSH....Play the investment game with patience... 2. Analyze the mutual funds....this may take a few months (typically 2-3 months) 3. Select the Mutual Funds that you may want to invest in 4. Start investing in a systematic way (SIPs)....Lumpsum investments may not be the best approach... |
