I have always believed in truth. I do not like to say "I do not lie" because that itself would be the greatest lie. I have always wanted to be truthful when I speak to my loved ones. I adopted this ideology from a movie in which the protagonist says how difficult it is to always speak the truth. It is hard to speak the truth and sometimes harder to listen to it. Although it was just another flop movie for everyone, this movie had something to tell me. Since the time I saw this movie, I have tried my best to speak the truth and have been successful to some extent. But have I succeeded in pleasing people? Like me, are people around me also comfortable and bold enough to listen to "THE TRUTH"? My life seemed just fine, nothing more to expect and nothing less I had got. It just got more interesting when I fell in love with one of my colleagues. She was too pretty, kind, simple, kiddish and what not.. you just mention a praising adjective and it suits her. She could lead me to a situation where I will be found guilty to have`betrayed the trust my parents have on me. I might find myself in a soup at a later point in time if my mother and the lady take opposite sides in a battle of words over some issue. I knew at this point that I am stepping into the biggest gambling experience of my life. Biggest because in this battle, I will find almost everyone I know in the other team. It will be a fight with hundreds of people. But she is worth it. And this is when I felt the importance of truth. The only person who can support me in any situation is the Truth speaking guy inside of me. If I speak the right words at the right time, then I would probably be able to convince people around me. I may find my parents, my sister, my relatives and my friends acknowledging my decision. I also had a feeling that she also likes me and was expecting me to give a start. With this confidence, I started on a journey of love. I told the girl that I had started to get feelings about her. She did not respond immediately but later said no in a rather diplomatic way. But I never wanted to give up. I knew that I would be happy and keep her happy also. I also knew that I would be a better person when I am with her. I would have the courage and motivation to conquer anything in this world. Although I am being a little unrealistic here, I always have believed that nothing is impossible. I only needed someone to motivate me, to inspire me, to lead me and I could give my best shot at anything. I have found the person who could do the job for me. She was the one. Since she had said no, I had to try my best to impress her. And this is where things started getting complicated for me. I did not want everyone to know about me chasing her. If everyone knew this, some people may want to help me out while the remaining would want to pull me out of this. I did not want anyone's help here. Whatever I am right now into, it is all my responsibility and the concerned person anyways knows about it. So, I had to lie when people asked me what was going on between me and her. Truth was my strength. And now, I am not using it. I am lying to people, to even my mother, my sister. Whenever I quarrelled with her mostly because of her over friendly nature with one particular guy, people used to tell that I looked like I had lost something. I wanted to scream out of frustration, "Yes, I have lost the most important thing and the truth, I have lied to my mother all because I want her.. and right now, she is with some other bloody guy on bike". How would anyone in the world in my situation handle it? These are things that bring you sadness. I could not tell it to anyone, I had to keep it to myself and allow it to grow. And the lady who knew about me had no concern about me. This is frustration at its highest limit. This is when I could not stop myself from letting out the truth. The truth on how I felt.. I had felt guilty to have given her so much importance in life. On hearing the truth, she got angry and never wanted to speak to me. She also said she does not need me anymore. I had always been frank with her. I have told her thousands of times, that she looks beautiful, she is kind, she is innocent, and so on. None of those mattered now. One truth which was against her had the power to erase all the good things. I cursed myself for speaking the truth this time. I apologized until she finally spoke to me. I also knew she would not forget it. I speak out such things because I do not want these negative things to grow inside of me. Once I let it out, its gone out of my mind. Why doesn't she realise this? Why doesn't she realise that even if I am bad with words, it is because I love her that much and I cannot see her with another guy? Once, I want to remind her that 99 out of 100 times I have quarrelled with her is because of "another guy". I want her to realise that how much ever bad I might be with my words, I am equally sincere and truthful in my love. I was sincere in whatever I did. I was sincere in loving her, in following her orders most of the time, in all my attempts to impress her, in my attempts to try and match the requirements she had once told of her dream boy. Sincerity and honesty go hand in hand. Not everyone can be sincere, not everyone can be truthful, I want to tell her. Or rather, I want her to realize this. I only hope. It's true that I cannot keep everyone happy. But I am sincerely trying to do so while also being truthful in my attempts. Now, seeing the consequences of my truth, I cannot stop myself from cursing the thought - "Satyameva jayathe", I cannot help but ask - "Is honesty really the best policy?" |
