tamron is okay, but not a match for the Canon or nikkor glass. the only tamron i seriously love is: Tamron 90 f/2.8 1:2 macro. this is far superior than its cannon counterpart. simply amazing. all opinions expressed are mine and only mine. not to be attributed to the other IP address sharers, my employer, or any other human, animal, robot or alien. | ||

If the 55-200 is kit lens, it must have F/4-5.6 aperture. The new lens covers the wide angle part, but has higher aperture. Though, you have full range of zoom covered between them, the new one performs significantly better than older lens. If that's OK with you, you can proceed to checkout. | ||

This is a big no-no for me. Buy lenses that will work for both cropped sensors as well as full frame sensors. That gives you flexibility to upgrade bodies in the future without worrying about your lenses. | ||

@Emc2, From the specs and review, it is a great lens. The best part of it is the large F/2.8 aperture. For this price, you can definitely buy it. Couple of things: * It is DX sized lens. In future, if you upgrade the camera body to full-format (FX) sensor, it will not work. * It is not Nikon. I hope, you don't have a goal to collect all Nikon lenses. | ||
