I don't get the idea of watching bluray on 17" laptop. You need big screen to appreciate bluray resolution. It's no different from DVD on small screens.

I got hp core i7 with blue ray 17inch in nov. it is too good.. i upgraded ram to 16g 8x2. It is soo good.. desktop never can replace this laptop.. of course you cannot just put on the lap and work.. i still do it sometimes.. it is fine.. laptop is comfortable and portable ..you can move around the home and use it. IBM is not making laptops any more ... so which one is best ...HP and Toshiba are ruled out ...DELL and Lenovo are two options.. I bought lenovo yesterday ..badly need one. Agree with venky. Office work antunnav, so get a desktop with big monitor. Personally, I spend most of my time on desktop with comfortable seating. The laptops I have are moderate machines, just for couch surfing. In fact, the day I work from home, I dock my office lappy and use external monitor, keyboard/mouse. I just can't do serious work on laptops. | ||

In my experience, again, I would buy a dekstop/iMac instead of laptop. I only use macbook to sync iPhone. To browse or to get onto internet whilst watching TV or doing something else, I use iPad. Laptop to me is a goner as many laptops today are not lap friendly per se. Infact apple no more calls it a laptop coz you cannot simply put it on your lap with all the heat dissipation. When you cannot use it at a portable widget, why buy a laptop?? Also iPads are the future. Period. Dekstop on the other hand, though might consume some of the square footage, its sturdy and can also serve as secondary display to TV. Research on iMac or ASUS Towers. After seeing so many theds on laptops, i feel a need to throw down a suggestion.. I had Dell Inspiron, HP small business laptop, Lenovo [14"] Thinkpad, IBM Thinkpad and currently Macbook pro black. Only two laptops I liked most and them are HP and IBM, IBM scoring highest. Dell is junk, Lenovo is junkest. Macbook an over expensive piece of $.. What I learned?? Look at the laptop physically.. play with all the buttons.. see the graphics.. get a good feel. Then buy it. Dont buy the laptop because its cheap.. if you do so, you will buy another one in less than 2years. Even if it is Dell, go to an outlet in the malls, check it out and then buy.
