Review : Businessman - 100% Paisa Vasool Entertainer
Prince Mahesh Babuâs Businessman has hit the screens today amidst unprecedented frenzy and hype. The movie has been directed by Puri Jagan and this is the first time Mahesh and Puri have come together after the record breaking Pokiri. Kajal is the heroine in this film. Let us see how the movie stacks up.
Story :
Surya (Mahesh Babu) is an extremely intelligent and ambitious man who comes to Mumbai with a burning desire to become the most powerful Mafia Don of the city. He comes in at a time when Mumbai commissioner Bharadwaj (Nasser) proudly claims to have wiped out the âBhaiâsâ from the city. Surya sets about achieving his objectives in a methodical and calculated manner by grabbing power from the grassroots in a clever and innovative manner. He allies with a local politician Laloo (Shayaji Shinde) and helps him gain power. From then on starts Surya's rise as the most influential Don in India.
In the meantime, he is also in love with Chitra (Kajal), who happens to be the daughter of Bharadwaj. Surya's meteoric rise is not taken easily by opposing politicians(led by Prakash Raj) and they start scheming to bring him down. Prakash Raj and Surya also share a past. What is it? Will Surya realize his dreams? That is the story.
Plus Points :
Mahesh Babu is simply amazing in the role of Surya. His dialogue delivery and expressions will send a tingle down your spine. He exudes pure menace when giving a 'dhamki' to his opponents. He has shown nice variations in his performance. And he looks stunningly handsome as usual. Mahesh Babu shoulders this movie on his own. The swagger, the attitude and his panache will be a big draw.
Kajal Aggarwal looks gorgeous as Chitra and she has some interesting moments with Mahesh Babu. She does not have much scope for performance however.
Puri Jagan is the other invisible hero of the movie. Take a bow sir, for some of the best dialogues seen in recent times. Each dialogue explodes like a bullet and when delivered by Mahesh Babu, the result is devastatingly effective. The movie is high on entertainment factor and there is hardly a boring moment in the film. The sequences where Mahesh Babu sets about establishing his dominance are highly innovative.
All the songs have been picturized well but 'Sir Osthara' song and 'Chandamama' stand out for their sheer beauty. The much talked about kiss with Kajal has been shot very beautifully and aesthetically. Shwetha Bharadwaj has sizzled in the item number. She has a bright future in the industry. Nazar, Prakash Raj and Shayaji Shinde are ok.
Minus Points :
Some cinematic liberties have been taken with respect to logic and events. The bank robbery scene is very rustic and looks outdated, especially in this age of high tech crime. The climax could have been a lot better. The incredible momentum built up for election scene has fizzled out.
The romantic track has a remarkable similarity to Pokiri, both in its setting and presentation. There is also no comedy to speak of, which might hinder a few family crowds. There are some vulgar dialogues which could have been avoided. Heroine's friendis a major irritant.

Verdict :
Businessman is Mahesh Babu's show all the way. And what a show it is. He just towersover the movie with his sheer presence and he is aided by some incredible dialogues from Puri Jagan. The film is high on entertainment quotient. Ignore some of the illogical sequences and the holes in the plots and you are in for a highly enjoyable ride. This is as good as paisa vasool entertainers get. Go and have fun with your friends this weekend. You will enjoy this flick.

Businessman - Rise of the anti-hero

Release date: 13 January 2012
123telugu.com Rating : 3.5/5
Director : Puri Jagannadh
Producer : Venkat
Music Director : Thaman S
Starring: Mahesh Babu, Kajal,Prakash Raj,Shayaji Shinde,Nazar
âThe world is a war zone, and you battle for your life with killer instinct, come what mayâ says Surya Bhai, the protagonist of Puri Jagannadhâs latest film Businessman. The filmstands true to the tenet throughout, and this consistency of thought, mixed with Jagannadhâs marked dialogues should ensure that Businessman will be successful.
Whatâs it about :
At a time when Mumbai Police declares that they have finished the last of mafia, Surya, a seemingly chocolate boy comes to Mumbai to visit his friend. However, the boy is made of steel, and his vision is to take over Mumbai, either by hook or crook. For this purpose, he employs the almost dead Mumbai mafia, and does a Robinhood for the people who lost their homes to bank rules. It is not long before Surya becomes Surya bhai, and he is able to spread his wings to Delhi, and the police are on a mission to finish him. But Surya cunningly makes the daughter of the commissioner, Chitra (Kajal) fall for him. Soon Surya becomes serious about her, but he is forced to use her as a shield. Obviously, this raises doubts about Suryaâs morality. Who is Surya, what is his moral grounds to act the way he does, and how does he justify himself form the rest of the story.
Whatâs Good: :
The film has two heavyweight performances â one from Mahesh Babu, for whom this role is a cake-walk. Watch out that scene where he delivers a monologue about the election system in India. He seems to enjoy the role to the core and this spreads to the audiences easily. The other performance comes from Puri Jagannadh, not as a performing actor, but as a director who seems to be in control of what he wants to say, and how he says it.
As far as other actors are concerned, Nazar makes his presence felt, while Prakash Raj is his usual self in a rather small role. Kajal Agarwal plays Maheshâs love interest, and her character has been used nicely, even though it is small terms of the plot. The likes of Sayaji Shinde, Subba Raju, Raza Murad, Dharmavarapu Subrahmaniyam, Brahmaji etc. have smaller roles in which they complement Maheshâs character.
Shweta Bharadwajâs item number may not be in the ilk of the item number of Pokiri, but it is entertaining too.
Whatâs Bad:
In the set up established by the director the rise of the protagonist has been showcased extremely well. However, as the moral foundations of the protagonist are based on his whims and wishes, the scenes towards climax become extremely clichéd! But this little drawback is easily shadowed by the sheer energy and dynamism of Mahesh Babu. And those who are too âtouchy feelyâ about their own morality will have other opinions about the entire story!
Technical Aspects :
The dialogues by Puri Jagannadh arenât just entertaining, but also showcase his philosophy of life. Few dialogues are so good that one wonders if the screenplay has been woven in such a way that certain dialogues have a specific time and purpose to come out. Add Thamanâs much better background score to all this, with some slick editing and cinematography, Businessman is an intense movie. Editing needs another special mention for the way quite a few montages have been strung together. Songs are there only to provide the requisite entertainment, but they are hardly boring, especially with Mahesh-Kajal chemistry working well.
Verdict :
All in all, Businessman is a movie about the rise of a powerful anti-hero, whose morals and values are only as good as the world that surrounds him. It is definitely more than entertaining.
