HBD RD True legend Some fond memories 1. When India played Pak at bangalore in 96 WC QF, there was a huge banner hanging from one of the tiers "Where is Rahul" 2. Devid made his debut after 96 WC debacle, where the likes of kambli were dropped. He got run out multiple times for single digit scores in his first few innings, which were mostly in the slog overs 3. One of the most beautiful passages of test cricket was when gangu and devid made their debut in same test - Grace and timing at one end, poise and technique at the other When he got out just before he made a 100 on debut, you could see from his reaction -" no fuss, move on" 4. In 1998, He equaled world record for consecutive test 50s 5. He had a torrid time against akhtar and co during the 98-99 season and in his first tour down under - needless to say he owned them when he played for the second time 6. He was considered a misfit in ODIs. He changed his approach where he would start taking more singles. 99 WC in england was a great turnaround runs wise. He continued his ODI form forging successful partnerships with yuvi and kaif, particularly ODI chases. 7. We call him the wall - not for the technique but for the team first attitude- opened innings in tests, kept wickets so that an extra batsmen could be played. At one point, his avg in away tests was way more than his batting avg at home He made Allan Donald go off the boil and something I will always remember - declared innings when someone was on 192 | ||
