there are different thoughts on when it the war actually started and people have proposed different dates mainly based on the astronomical references given in it. There have been other attempts to arrive at the date based on other references and indirect methods.

astronomical facts mentioned are
- two amavasyas in same month
- two eclipses
- kshaya paksham because of this
- passing of planets, lining up of planets like never before

so kinda ichina link prakaram teesukunte oct 16th is the date is started
the link also talks about 58 days but i think there is a factual error - endukante we have the slokam by bheeshma pitamah that i mentiond which says total of 58 days on the yuddhabhoomi, now this link says 68 days total.

so we can calculate based on these

So calculating forward 2 months and ekadasi will bring Bhishma ekadasi to magha masam (like many here said) .

But like basky said , if there was an adhika masam between the start of the war and Bhishma's death then Bhishma ekadasi would have been Dhanurmasam(which is Vaikuntha ekadasi)

Thank you - that is what I was looking for confirmation on.

One more question - why is the birth of Githa considered to be margasira ekadasi ? The war was halfway thru by that time kada ?:-)

I am going by the assumption that he died on Bhishma ekadasi.This whole train of thought started because of the discussion between vaikuntha and bheeshma ekadasi- which are a whole month apart per most folks here.

If we know which month the war started - simply adding the two months(amavasyas) and time for ekadasi will tell us which is accurate bheeshma ekadasi ani adiganu...:-)
