Rapes On Rise Due To Provoking Dressing! Why are atrocities on women, particularly rapes, on the rise in Andhra Pradesh? Ask Director General of Police V Dinesh Reddy; his answer is: skimpy dressing by girls and women in the name of fashion. Answering a question from a media person at the annual round-up press conference on Friday, Dinesh Reddy made an off-the-cuff observation, saying one of the factors responsible for increasing number of rapes in the state was the provoking dress being worn by women as part of present day fashion. âIf they wear fashionable dresses in the family functions, it is alright. But if they wear such provoking dresses in public, it will create problems and the police will have no control. After all, the police will not be there everywhere,â he said. Though it was a reasonably correct comment, it became controversial as it had come from the highest police officer in the state. Naturally, it incurred the wrath of womenâs organizations.
