Page 7 --------------------- The Bhagavadgita deals with five axioms, basic truths or concepts: They are: 1) The Param Brahma or the Supreme Being 2) The Jivas (the Living entities) 3) The Prakriti (the Nature) 4) The Celestial/Cosmic controlling force (concepts of gravity, time, stellar motions, cosmic forces, etc) 5) The interactions of all the above with the living beings (the karma) Out of these five entities, the Param Brahma, the Supreme Being, or the Eternal Entity is the leader of all. The Supreme Being rules and controls over all other entities -- the jivas, the prakriti, the cosmic and the karma. all opinions expressed are mine and only mine. not to be attributed to the other IP address sharers, my employer, or any other human, animal, robot or alien. |

Page 6 ------------ One of the most important qualities the Bhagavadgita reader must possess is the humility. Arjuna told Krishna, "Sarvam etad rtam manye", which means, "I accept everything you teach, as true". The author wants every reader to imbibe this humble spirit of Arjuna and accept everything the Bhagavadgita teaches as truth; and then attempt to understand it. The reason every Hindu must read the Bhagavadgita is to understand the meta-physical nature of our existence. What are we? Where did we come from? What should we do? Where do we go next? etc. This is called "Brahma Jignasa" or the eternal enquiry. The consciousness of incompleteness of the understanding our self is what differentiates the humans from the other living beings. Those who want to pursue this enquiry are the ideal students of Bhagavadgitha. all opinions expressed are mine and only mine. not to be attributed to the other IP address sharers, my employer, or any other human, animal, robot or alien. |

I am a little bit hesitant to use the words like "God", "Lord" when I am writing the summaries, since these two words apply to all religions, and those who do not follow Hinduism may get offended. So I am going to use neutral terms such as the Supreme Entity, ParaBrahmam, Supreme, etc. essentially refer to the concept of God in Hinduism. I may be wrong to do so, but that will make it comfortable to me. Similarly, unless I mention specifically, the words Brahma and Brahman are not meant to be the caste. The word refers to a state of mind. for those who cannot wait, please see the sloka "kim tad brahman" in Chapter 8. all opinions expressed are mine and only mine. not to be attributed to the other IP address sharers, my employer, or any other human, animal, robot or alien. |

Page 5. Please note, we are still in the introductory chapter, where the author seems to be giving us a 1000-ft view of the Bhagavadgita. Like Arjuna, who we learned that he had established a devotional relationship with the Supreme, every living being already has a special relationship with the Eternal Entity. This is called "Svarupa". Those who is able to recognize the "svarupa" are said to be in "svarupa sidhdhi". This is essentially realizing that you exist; the Supreme Entity exists; and there exists a relationship between the two. That means, you are accepting that there is the God. Arjuna received the Gitopanishad from Krishna, Arjuna told Krishna that He is "Param Brahma", which means, the greatest of all Brahma(n)s. Krishna also tells Arjuna who is a "Brahma(n)". when Arjuna asks "kim tad Brahma", who is a Brahma(n). We will have to wait till Chapter eight for the answer. all opinions expressed are mine and only mine. not to be attributed to the other IP address sharers, my employer, or any other human, animal, robot or alien. |

Here is what I learnt from Page 4. The Bhagavadgita was taught verbal from one person to another. This is called "Parampara" or a series. The original Series was GOD -> The SUN God -> Manu -> Ikshwaku. At this point, the series had stopped. So, the God restarted the series with Arjuna, so that Arjuna can teach the rest of the Hindus. There are three ways to attain Moksha - Gnani, Yogi and Bhakthi. Arjuna practiced Bhakthi Yoga. There are 5 types of Bhakthas. Active Bhakthas, Passive Bhakthas, Friend, Parent and Lover. Depending on your context, you can choose one of these five roles of Bhakthas. Arjuna was a Friend bhaktha. The "Friendship" of Arjuna and the God is a metaphysical friendship. Next we will meet in Page 5. all opinions expressed are mine and only mine. not to be attributed to the other IP address sharers, my employer, or any other human, animal, robot or alien. |

Oohlala:Who is the supreme god the author is referring to?
On every page of the Bhagavadgitha, it is mentioned that the lines or words are spoken by the "Supreme God Head" or the "Supreme God Being". So, the idea of a the Supreme God seems to be essential. The author says, we should take the Bhagavadgitha as the text directed by the Supreme Lord or Supreme God. all opinions expressed are mine and only mine. not to be attributed to the other IP address sharers, my employer, or any other human, animal, robot or alien. |

Starting with Page #3, Introduction. Main take-aways on this page are: The Bhagawadgita has another name, The Githopanishad. In the remaining paragraphs, the Author explains that the Bhagavadgita should be read/understood in exactly the same way it was "told" by the Lord. Hence the name of the version "as it is". The author also says, the Bhagavadgita was spoken by the "Supreme God", through Lord Krishna. all opinions expressed are mine and only mine. not to be attributed to the other IP address sharers, my employer, or any other human, animal, robot or alien. |

I will start the thread today, hopefully it wont get archived, so that we can continue it for a while. I will be reading from this book. http://www.asitis.com/ If you want a free copy http://download.cnet.com/Bhagavad-gita-As-It-Is-PDF/3000-213 5_4-10494924.html Why this book? Well, we have to have "a version". This version won the "notoriety" recently by earning a demand for a ban in Russia, which a Judge had overruled. all opinions expressed are mine and only mine. not to be attributed to the other IP address sharers, my employer, or any other human, animal, robot or alien. |
