Lets carefully analyze this. This is a major opportunity to lock 9% for a long time.

1) We will get 9.25% or about 6% after tax. This is excellent.

2) Let's put into NRE, so that we have the option to take it in Rupee or USD.

3) When we put into the account, the USD is immediately converted into Rupee.

4) If Rupee further depreciates, we will take a loss, if we convert back to USD. So, we will be stuck in rupees. If this is your long term savings, no issue. But short term, we should be prepared for upto 10% loss.

5) If rupee appreciates, that is, if it goes back to 46/47 range, we will make about 10% on appreciation as well.

6) Finally, institutional risk - make sure we put the money is a big national level bank. I think India does not have FDIC type guarantee.

My reading is, India is buying USD aggressively for whatever reason/strategy. Watch the developments carefully.
