EMC, for learning, buy a very simple SLR for less than $300, with a 50mm lens and a 70-200 zoom lens. everything would be less than $500. the more restricted the better pictures you will take. once you take some good/great/fantastic pictures, then if you are still interested, go a pro-class camera body like D-1 or whatever. my 2 cents. buying a midrange right away is a hassle.

i learnt photography on this $180 fully manual body, with a $80, 50mm f1.8 FD lens, with a cable release. I still have it.

d90 and d7000 try chesa,awsome anipinchayi,try ante used each for 2 months..

d7000 has 1080p video and 6fps blast mode...so decided to got for d7000..
