Guys, Neil deGrass Tyson, one of the best known pysicists of our time will be doing an AMA (Ask Me Anything) this weekend. You want to pose these to him.

Here is the link:
http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/nfoc9/neil_degrasse_ty son_plans_for_another_ama_this/

You can read Tyson's wiki page

If you have no patience for the AMA, you may also get answers at r/Physics of Reddit

ether was an important part of physics before Einstien dismissed it. This guy restored ether and presents it as an all pervading highly densed continuum with aethrons filling it, further he develops a model and explains the motion of planets in a vortex model of ether akin to fluid vortex in a regular kitchen sink, this explanation establishes physical connection between planets and also explains their tangential velocities. he also explains transfer of momentum between bodies in collision and discards the idea of forces. That's the broad summary as far as newton's laws are concerned. i haven't gone through the other areas.

Thanks Vjvasi for bringing this up. I used to ask myself these questions and compromise with vague answers/thoughts something like exchange of energy could be the cause of motion. not sure of the nature of energy also!!

What are the answers you found in the book? would read the book later.

Newton's Law of motion

first law

A body remains in rest or uniform motion unless an external force acts on it

questions on this law

1. what's the exact nature and mechanism of "force" and how it generates motion?

2. If inertia is the property of body that keeps a body in rest or uniform motion when no external force acts, what is the mechanism of inertia?

Newton's Universal Law of gravitation

1. according to the law of gravitation two masses seperated in space attract each other, what is the mechanism of such attraction? Newton himself was very concerned about his theory's lack of explanation on the mechanism part as it was a deviation from accepted epistemological foundations of physics in that period. many of his contemporary physicists argued that his theory was meta-physical because of lack of explanation on the source and mechanism of gravitation. Newton wasn't the sole contributor to his theories, there was contribution from his predecesors and contemporaries

2. While newton's theory only talks about radial gravitational force, how come planets have perfect tangential velocities that fit them in their orbits? How they achieved those velocities?

what exactly is the nature of space? what constitutes space? relativity denies ether and claims it as just empty? what does "empty" means when we perceive "space" as something existing.

Finally, what is physics? is it study of physical patterns and causes or it's role is just limited to identify patterns and fit equations to them

These are some questions Steven Rado's books deals with in his fascinating book "Aethro-Dynamics" he restores ether in his book and presents an "alternative physics". Some of you may tend to dismiss him but it's worth a reading to understand the epistemological foundations, history and evolution of physics. i have gone through his dealing with newton's laws and his explanation is impressive. This book shatters the sanctimoniousness associated with current physics and its equations. Read the book "Aethro-Kinematics" here
