Very true...Especially after seeing how much the teachers here put into their work...and they have to fight to get their departments funded..Ma pillala teachers mottukuntaru kalisinappudu alla - sports ki vachina funding academic activities ki radu ani because sports generate revenue for the schools.. And that carries into the universities ... its not a great situation for teachers who want to teach... The second math teacher I mentioned went into teaching cos he loves working with youngsters ..he works with the kids well after school hours and says the kids who love the subject vindicate his efforts... Teaching is an underpaid job. It does not have the same professional value as other jobs. But take it from me, it is the first profession in education that needs to be protected.. Yeah- which is a tragedy and then we get stuck with teachers who radiate their dislike of the job and it translates to dislike of the subject in the students ... But on the positive side  you have those teachers who love what they do... and it shows in their students enthusiasm for the subject...saw a live example this morning.. My son was up till 4 am solving 2 calculus problems he and his friend dreamed up for an assignment - they could have chosen an easy one but they went for a tough one. The teacher spent an hour after school working it with them , then they all went to another math teacher who spent another 2 hours after that - all the teachers personal times on something not part of their job requirements, then the kids continued working it till they finally solved it..and on the side my son had the energy to draw cartoons to illustrate the problem on the chart Can't even imagine my math teacher's reaction if I had donne that God bless the teachers who go the extra miles to keep that fire alive in the kids aa chal ke tujhe main leke chalu ik aise gagan ke tale jahan gam bhi na ho, aansoo bhi na ho,bas pyaar hi pyaar pale | ||

I partly felt so. For me one amazing thing about doing research is learning incredible things day in and day out. It amazes me that each discovery unfolds tremendous potential to understand nature.
Such demos make you remember concepts for life. Great teachers set unconventional examples. I taught at an Ivy league school Chemistry for Engineers and demonstrated superconductivity and levitation in the lab.
