Venkateswarlu:

Multiple HDD enclosure

Multiple ante, mallee WHS server type lo untundi. Antha avasarama? Here are few:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816132 029

Venkateswarlu:

Do I have to reformat or loose data when I disconnect from WHS and reconnect back?

Two options:

1. Use these as external drives. WHS sees them, but does not use as storage pool. If the 4 internal bays are full, it cannot make use of this space. But, you can disconnect this external enclosure from WHS, connect to another computer and use the files.

2. Add this to WHS storage pool. Then whs formats the drives in the enclosure and uses as it needs. Remember, whs does load balancing, means it may use external storage even if internal drives are not full. You cannot just disconnect the external drive and use elsewhere. If you need, you have to remove the drive from whs storage pool, wait until it reallocates the files on to internal drives, then disconnect. At this point, external drive will not have any files on it.

Not for single enclosure. Multiple HDD enclosure like this one - http://youtu.be/UAOduHUVdOA

One question: If I connect this Star Tech enclosure [Say I have 2 HDD inside] and connect to WHS - Do I have to reformat or loose data when I disconnect from WHS and reconnect back?

Venkateswarlu:

1. Need eSATA drive enclosure for WHS.
2. Is it posbl to implement RAID? If yes, how. If no, how best to preserve our data without having any tension. One of my 4 drives failed a week back and am not at all happy. Goddamn it.

There are many options. You can find many on newegg for about $25-$30.

There is no hardware RAID support in WHS. It supports disk duplication, if you need.

I use one drive (1.5TB) for data/media and second drive (1.5 TB) for back up (duplications). Still, left with 2 more drive bays. Why would you wan to add external drive with enclosure?
