Hyd Mayor seat: Cong Betrays MIM The Congress party has exposed its true colours and displayed its hunger for power once again by refusing to concede the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Mayor post to Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen. On Friday, Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana had a meeting with MIM floor leader in the assembly Akbaruddin Owaisi and others and conveyed that the Congress wants to retain the Mayor post for one more year. As per the original understanding, the Congress will enjoy the Mayor post for the first two years, followed by MIM for the next two years and the final year term would once again go to the Congress. As such, present Mayor Banda Karthika Reddy, who took over as Mayor on December 4, 2009, should step down for the MIM candidate on the same day this year. But she is now reluctant to relinquish the post and wants to continue for another one year. Her apprehension is that if the Mayor seat is given to the MIM now, it might not vacate the same after two years and create troubles for the ruling party.  Botsa told the MIM leaders that the Congress would continue in the post for one more year, so that the MIM can continue in the post without any break. But, the MIM leaders are not convinced. They said they were not sure of the political developments in the coming days and the sooner the MIM gets into the Mayor seat, the better for it. The stalemate continues.  |
