Guru:, i couldnt understand why dong lee can't hypnotize Sruti hassan instead of trying to kill her.
I got the same doubt as well. I calmed myself by assuming Sruti avoided "eye contact" as she knows the potential risk dEvO mahEsh roopENa: Superstar Mahesh Rocks! |

7th Sense has at its core some really inspiring but atrocious science. It is good that film makers are now exploring new avenues but in that process, they seem to be getting their folklore and science pretty mixed up resulting in a mighty messed up surrealism. Whatever Bodhi Dharman could do, could be imparted to anyone as shown in the first twenty minutes of the movie. The villain - Dong Li - is in fact a beneficiary of Bodhi Dharman's technique and I am sure he does not share a gene with the Mighty One, assuming the Mighty One did not mate with anyone in the colony. That said, why would someone go all the way to find the descendants of Bodhi Dharman and hope for a perfect DNA match is puzzling. All you need to know about the technique is already present in the book that is preserved in the museum. With that, anyone could be trained to be a warrior. If that assumption is incorrect and such knowledge sharing would work only if the teacher is the Mighty One himself, Dong Li could not have acquired the skill. The premise of the story hence is very shaky. There were some blunders too - like calling Cancer a hereditary disease. (It is not hereditary and it is not a disease per se. It is a body condition.) Gene Memory is supposedly the key factor in making Arvind, the protagonist the Mighty One himself. However if the technique is something acquired by Bodhi Dharman, I am not sure how it could be part of the gene memory. Even if we assume that Bodhi Dharman had a body structure that was inherently friendly to learning such technique, the declaration by the scientist that the moment the gene makeup matches with Bodhi's, Arvind would know all the plants and its virtues instantly is a laughable idea. The knowledge of plants, their medicinal values etc are again an acquired skill. The idea is akin to saying that Einstein's off springs would instantly know the process of Photo Electricity the moment their genes have a 100% match. Again, all this is based on yet another super shaky theory... that a person's gene makeup can be altered! But here's the difference. Showing that you can alter a person's gene makeup by some means is called futuristic and science fiction. Saying that the modified man knows everything that the progenitor had studied in this life time is best described as Kaakamma kathalu. There has got to be a bit of plausibility from a scientific angle to call something science fiction. Or there is an easier way out - call the whole thing "magic" and anything goes! In that case, the final arousing speech in front of the camera makes absolutely no sense. 7th Sense hence did not make any sense to me. Utterly pointless and brutally childish, this wannabe science thriller falls flat. The only saving grace is Dong Li! Man, he does have that supernatural ability of making girls go gaga after him with just one passing glance. But three cheers for the effort and hope to see more such experiments in future. Yeah right... where are the comments about the actors, the director etc etc? Otherwise you cannot call this a review, right? Well, don't call it a review. Because here's some nice news from 1600 years ago (when I started writing this piece I mean) - this is an appraisal, not a review. dEvO mahEsh roopENa: Superstar Mahesh Rocks! |
