it's a matter of logistics, shelf life, profit margins, distribution, storage, volume of sales, scale of production etc |

May be...related to shelf life in the store
chicken can be stored for 15 days...whereas vegetables hardlyl 3-4 days
Also, the corn thingy (chicken's food) may play a role in cheap chicken prices in usa

The fallacy here is the level at which you are eating the in food chain. The higher you eat, the more damaging it is to the nature.
Here for example, plants are the lowest in the food chain. Because, they do not eat any other living being. They sustain on natural elements, water and sun. A plant eating animal is one level up. To produce 1 kg of meat, you need perhaps 20kg of plant food. A chicken probably eats 20kg of food before you can eat it. that is the concept. The point is, why eating something that spent 20kg for one meal, instead of eating that for 20 meals.
if you eat an animal eater meat, that multiply even more. That is the reason, in many countries, cat fish is banned. cat fish eats only other fish in nature, which eat plankton. So to get 1 kg of cat fish, you would be spending may be 100kg of plankton. the farm raised cat fish eats corn, of course.
so, the idea is always eating low in the food chain. |
