sorry ash bro - can't take if any body insults dogs. they are very clean animals. you must see how clean and spick and span they keep their bed. when we roll out of our bed in the morning, it looks like a pig sty, but the dogs bed look like they never slept. they do not poo in their territory - they consider your home and entire yard as their playground. so they wait till you take them for a walk to poo. they poo in the yard only if you do not take them for a walk, that too in a special corner, out of every ones way. excellent breed, but sheds more than a lab, but thammi, if you cannot walk it an hour a day, i advise not to. you must be a busy guy! but if you can make time, it adds 10 years to your life and makes you a very happy person. if you have kids, they will love it. Padmasri, no human food for dogs. it keeps their health perfect that way. occassionally we give fresh veggies like cabbage (they love it for the crunch), carrot (okay timepass he thinks), apple (chalta hai), pineapple(hate it but i will eat it for your sake types).. chicken bones and mutton bones, fish bones are delicious. but no carbs. well, except when i spoil him. my dog is a 100% Labrador Retriever (yellow lab). they can read. they understand pain, fear and anger. may not understand the humor or laughter. for example, if you laugh at him, he looks confused. but suppose you burn your finger or bump your head against some thing, he instinctively touches you and stands by you. my dog is extremely careful with smoke. he usually never barks. but if he sees any smoke of any kind he immediately barks. if we use grill, he thinks we are crazy and keeps admonishing us. one of the nice things about NY Times, they run quite a few articles on dog behavior and dog psychology. dog is truly the american holy animal. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/20/opinion/sunday/is-your-dog -smarter-than-a-2-year-old.html after reading this, i can relate a few things my dog does. one of its favorite things is sitting by me as i have my morning coffee on weekends. i think it likes the coffee smell but never asks for it. also it knows, when he smells coffee, i will be home all day, as i do not take cofee at home on working days. so, some times, i fake that i am burnt by the hot coffee (thats how i taught him not to ask for coffee, btw), then he empathizes by licking my hand or leg. another wonderful thing i understood only recently: wife and i take him for a walk, and nowadays it gets dark. on a narrow walk path, we three walk in a single file, with about 10 ft apart. he make sure he walks in the middle and keeps an eye on both of us and adjusts his pace. true champ. some times I fall back purposefully to test him what he does. he DOES NOT wait for me. he instinctively knows between me and my wife, she needs protection and stays with her. But.. ready? he keeps peeing a bit, and hurries off. reason, he thinks i can use his pee if i got lost. he comes every night and asks to be brushed. this is the most insane thing. but if I tell him, i will brush you tomorrow, he puts a long face and goes back to his watching post. he sits on a dog seat by our main window and keeps an eye on the drive way.
