This followed attacks on members of a community which is being perceived as 'deliberately carried out in order to foment trouble and vitiate the peaceful atmosphere.' On Tuesday night alone, there were three attacks on members of a community who wore or sported religiously identifiable symbols, police sources said. All the attacks took place in a span of one hour, making it clear that there was more than what met the eye. 23-year-old resident of Old Malakpet was attacked by unidentified persons near the Kachiguda slaughter house when he was returning home along with a colleague. Employed at a popcorn shop in King Koti, the youth was rushed to Osmania General Hospital late on Tuesday night from where he was shifted to a private hospital in Kothapet where his condition is stated to be critical. Police sources quoted eyewitnesses as saying that the attack was the handiwork of three motorcycle-borne miscreants. In the second incident, two youths, residents of Purani Haveli and Norokhan Bazaar respectively, were attacked by unidentified persons when they were on their way back home after having dinner at a dhaba in Bowenpally area. In both the instances, the victims sustained injuries inflicted by a sharp-edged weapon. Top police sources said there were at least two more such attacks since Sunday night and that the involvement of a religious fundamentalist group is suspected. "There appears to be a deliberate attempt at disturbing the communal harmony in the city." |
