This is the old way- not using Kinect. If you notice, both the girl and Asimo are doing their rehearsed moves independently and very soon went out of sync. This is the biggest challenge in robotics. having to preprogram every move and replay. Now with kinect, the problem is turned upside down,in a sort of declarative manner. You just need to write one meta program like a "movement Engine" which can perform watch-mimic-store-replay loop in infinite manner. In other words, this is exactly a human learns. You can no show Asimo how to press a pair of pants, and then show how to press a shirt, and then store both routines, tag them, and prestage that with an object recognition program, viola. you have it. | ||

If you watch the dance video again with Kinect in mind, it is just so amazing, the way each joint is mimicking the girl. The hands are reading the signals better and faster than the feet legs and neck. the wave motion is almost perfect. | ||

Kevv. to mimic those dance moves, Asimo uses Microsoft's Kinect technology it seems. That's amazing, because it removes a key hurdle in teaching the robot, the programming step! Now the robot can be shown to do something. | ||

not really. I have been following Asimo and Sony's AIBo for more than a decade. Very slow progress. Sony scrapped the project. Honda is making slow progress. I wish they open source the software and progress faster. But I think Honda gets it. The key to understanding a persona robot is to replace the car with a robot. That is where Google does not get it. Google is trying replace a car with a self-driving car. Imo, it is useless. I wouldn't want to go in a car without someone when I am 75. I need a PA to drive me to the hospital, opera, park, fireworks or to the airport. I want someone to come to the airport and pick me up. That's why Asimo inside the house and a Honda car on the road driven by Asimo makes it perfect. | ||

Today's latest release robot from Honda.
