Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddyâs fancied scheme of Re 1-a-kg rice has not generated any euphoria among the people due to the poor quality of rice being supplied. Even his cabinet colleagues are not happy with the way the chief minister had unilaterally announced the scheme without taking them into confidence. Civil Supplies Minister D Sridhar Babu, under whose purview the scheme is implemented, himself is not happy with the scheme. âThere is absolutely no use of this scheme in the wake of increasing prices of essential commodities. What is the point in supplying rotten rice at Re 1 a kg, while increasing the prices of all essential commodities? Personally, I am dead against this scheme,â Sridhar Babu said in Karimnagar. Health Minister D L Ravindra Reddy also found fault with the rice scheme. He said it was absolutely a waste scheme that would not fetch any benefit to the people. âThe focus should be on reducing the prices of essential commodities; not providing rice at Re 1 a kg. This is my personal opinion,â he said, while participating in Rachchabanda programme. Former minister J C Diwakar Reddy also said the scheme would not of any help to the poor. It is certainly a setback to the Chief Minister, when his own cabinet colleagues are openly opposing his scheme. | ||
