The maverick Minister Dr P Shankar Rao has come up with yet another gem of a demand! He now wants Bharat Ratna for the Congress President Sonia Gandhi. I will submit a memorandum to the central government to bestow the highest civilian honour on Sonia Gandhi. I am going to raise this demand on the occasion of the Republic Day next year, the Textiles and Handlooms Minister said in Vizianagaram on Tuesday. The eccentric Telangana leader said that the Gandhi family was the epitome of supreme sacrifices. From Jawaharlal Nehru to Rahul Gandhi, the entire family has been dedicated to the welfare of the poor and downtrodden, he said. The Minister, who has been staying from the cabinet meetings these days, showered praises on Sonia saying she had made several sacrifices for the sake of the country. She fully deserves Bharat Ratna, Shankar Rao said. It seems he is desperately trying to escape disciplinary action by the party high command. |
