As everyone of you already know Ra one is a movie produced under SRK's banner. Whenever SRK produces a movie (on his own) he never played it safe (except for those two which were directed by that fat khan). Now Lets re visit some of the best movies that came under his banner. His first production if I recollect was "Phir Bhi Dil hain hindustani". A satire on the media madness ,a parody on the TRP wars and a perfect spoof on the very TV9 driven world we are currently living in. Its a very well made movie and it flopped. And then it was Asoka. A historic account of the great king and his metamorphosis from a war monger rajamouli movie hero to a peaceful spineless shekar kummula movie hero. Not a bad movie, but it bombed too. And then he produces a rural beautiful poignant poetic elegant simple film with gorgeous visuals called Paheli. And it went unnoticed. And I really think RA One is the fourth best movie coming from his production house. It has a nice simple story inspired from terminator 2. And it has a killer sound track and some cool visuals in couple of scenes and a sexy karrrreena as the female lead. The plot is very simple. Therez a kid who thinks his dad is not cool. And then bada bing bada boom bada bing. Dad dies. New Dad comes. He grabs the kids moms butt n boobs n then kills the villain and they live happily ever after. So the plot is very simple and coming to performances of the artists. Kareena looks like a billion bucks and her vulnerability and innocence reminded me of the age old Indian heroine who can now be considered as an endangered species like the Panda population. Arjun Rampal is effective. Looks like a real RA one. And then the kid was fine. He is not like the dumb kids u see in karan kohar movies or rakesh roshans super hero flicks. He is very real when it comes to emotions. And then there is SRK. He has two roles to portray. One is of a tamil geek(the back ground score paithyakara is hillarious) where he hams a little bit. Not with his emotions but with his accent. Instead of portraying a geek he creates a caricature. I mean what the fck is wrong with these Bombay people. Why cant a tamil geek can be just normal and not embarass himself? Its high time bollywood starts to mature while portraying people from other cultures. It took years for hollywood to portray blacks and mexicans as normal people and not as convicts or ex convicts. Donno know when bollywood going to evolve. OK . I digress. Now back to the movie. I chose to forgive the geeky srk hamming for the one scene. The scene where he encounters the RA one and how he tries to lie his way out to Protect Lucifer, his son. He was awesome in that moment and it makes u forgive for his hamming before. Or may be ur happy his character died and you dont have to deal with hamming and you forgive? Well lets not get into dynamics of the root causes for the forgiving. lets move on And then SRK surfaces back as G one. He talks less and emotes less. Means he irritates less. He looks perfect as a Robot. And then I read karan johar directed the movie for two days. I concur he directed the gay scene in airport which is as obvious as martin scorcese showing the rat on window when matt damon dies in the departed final scene. And the karwa chouth or karwa chowd or karwa watever the fck scene in second half. I mean come on. Does every north indian film has to have reference to Karwa . Does every hollywood film has reference to hannukah cause hollywood full of jews? What the fck man. Why cant karan johar stay away from movies? And I almost forgot .There was a scene of thalaivar rajini as chitti. He looks like an aged •••• star who lost his prescription to Viagra. And kudos to the public who watched him as a superhero for 3hours on screen in Robot.Sometimes I think the world is crazy. And the action choreography. Which is the heart and soul of a super hero flick. Here the movie could have been better. More hand to hand combats like Terminator 2 could have awesome rather than throwing Blue and Red laser balls on each other. It looks like a game of marampeedi between 2 kids than an intense fight between good and evil. And you might ask why the movie appeals to you with so many cliches? I tell you why. Its better than green lantern , captain america and many more super hero flicks that tortured us every summer in Hollywood. If you have sit through those big budget ,boring , special effects driven super flicks like me then you would say RA one is not that bad. It has entertainment atleast . And while coming out of the theater there is one Question that flashes across your brain. Who is the real super hero of the Movie. A nerdy shekar with a bad hair style and accent but still manages to patao a hot ass super model kinda kareena and then makes her agree to marry him and then sleep with him and then make a baby and then like a cherry on top tames her to remain as a House wife and take care of the house and the Kid? or The G one who can lift real cars and throw them around like they are marbles and stop fast moving trains with just bare hands and destroy the indestructible RA One? I would have to say it has to be the former. The geeky shekhar he is the real Super Hero. RA one. You can watch it once for Fun.  |
