Indiarocks:why do u need all of this. if you knew how to set up the passcode, you will know abt the siri option. if not, u r simply dumb.
that's arrogance of youth and technology. lot of grandmas use iPads. they wouldn't get what the manual says. the terminology itself is hard. they are simply not in that "namespace". |

Entikaburlu:actually, what would be cool is, Siri should be locked along with UI lock on inactivity or manually, but should automatically enable itself using voice recognition of the owner or a voice based password. that is how I would have designed the security.

Catalyst:the person who raised this issue has to be appreciated. it was good that this issue can be corrected through a small setting in a phone and addressed through media. a negative talk is enough to spoil a movie run.
but i have a feeling that apple may not change the default setting, and I can understand why. It just disables so many useful usecases. for example driving usecase. |

Siri Passcode Lock Siri can allow you to interact with your device without needing to unlock your phone. If you have enabled a passcode on your device and would like to prevent Siri from being used from the lock screen you can: Tap Settings > General > Passcode Lock Slide the Siri option to "off" Inta kante banana volichi evvadu cheppadu..then emma phone konagane features choodakunda picchekinattu do this do that ani aadukunte ilaage badhapadali first..its pretty lame ppl call it a bug catalyst, asalu ee angle lo bug ani decide chesav Who is this DB member? |

okay, it's all about how you view your phone. apple has documentation, and fortunately, so many people are talking about this, every one would be able to turn their feature off. seems quite easy to do. but once they lock siri, imo, it is not worth at all. idea is, you can talk to it even while keeping it in your pocket. it can also differentiate your voice from the ambient noise like a busy market. so some usecases will no longer work if siri is disabled with the lock. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4984?viewlocale=en_US |

Entikaburlu:This is like saying, you cannot switch on a car if you have locked the door. Exact analogy. if you have a remote ignition, you can switch on the car, even if the door is locked. The iphone userinterface is locked, but it is still functional.
you cannot compare this issue to a car. Phone has information related to User. it might be passwords, bank accounts, home address, SSN or some secured information such as revealing his personal meetings, information etc. Here we are talking about the security which is an unknown user can get the information from this phone even he locks his phone. Example - you locked your main door but not the back door. a Thief can enter back door steals what he wants. this is a simple clarification of how secured your home is in your assumption by thinking that locking the main door secures everything. |

Entikaburlu:bug or not is decided by what is needed to fix it. IMO, there is no fix needed, either you have to set the default setting off yourself or the company has to set it off. Apple must have decided to keep it on after some statistical sampling of the user preferences. If they did not have a setting in the UI, then it is an enhancement request. If there is a setting but did not work, then it is a bug.
Thats a clear BUG. whether it is setting or usability or something something that doesnt matter. Most of the people who are using the phone might be not aware of the settings which is a business requirement for Iphone that had the control over this feature. System is acting stupidly when phone is locked. It did not cared about the setting when the phone is locked which is big bug. Most of the users do not know what requirements are they just use it with some common knowledge on phone not but by reading the user manual. it is a security issue which raises an eyebrow. Company can be sued easily for this security flaw if bad incidents happened. |

Entikaburlu:this is a usability issue. suppose you are traveling in a car, and you want to keep using Siri, you have to keep it working even if the phone locked itself. Otherwise, you have to keep it unlocking. If you are so concerned about security, you can disable it in setup. It is a one time action.

Coolmac:mee antha telivainollu janal kaadhu kadha saar... by default they should have given this option enabled and let the user choose what they want...who is apple to set our privacy guideline?
Apple sets the rules on everything in their platform. They did enableSiri regardless of Phone lock or not. The user sets a Phone lock to his preference. Siri disable when locked is in the same screen. It is not apple's mistake the user didn't see or feel the need to turn it off. In this case, Apple actually gave users the option. I can see if some people actually complain if Siri was disabled by default when locked. There is no reason to complain or blame Apple in this case. By the way, I use Android and will only use it because it suits me better. |

It is upto user to keep his information and electronic devices secure. Are we going to blame Apple for not requiring a passcode by default on all iPhones? A stupid user is stupid regardless of the device or platform. Turn access to Siri Off when locked was the first thing I did on Oct 14 on my wife's phone. |

With all due apologices to gagu for stealing his line...this is funny that Apple did not securely implement this app. http://news.cnet.com/8301-1009_3-20122632-83/bad-siri-shell- let-anyone-use-a-locked-iphone-4s/ |
