VIJAYAWADA: The much-hyped Gannavaram Information Technology Park developed with over 1.75 lakh square feet built-up area as `Medha Tower' at a cost of Rs. 70 crore, is still passing through a difficult phase. Teething troubles continue for the park opened in January 2010 under the first phase of Gannavaram IT Park . The park has so far attracted just four small and medium IT services companies, which occupied just 15,500 sq.ft. The companies, Extranet Software Solutions, Galla IT Services, Indmax IT Services and Exact Data Discovery, employ 170 personnel, while the developers promised creation of about 3,000 jobs. The park was not able to attract companies because of lack of âcost advantageâ associated with a tier-two city and also several infrastructural deficiencies. âA company can get space at Rs.10 per sq.ft. near the Shamshabad international airport. Here it is Rs. 25 per sq.ft. The promoters should address such issues first,â says Chief Executive Officer of Indmax IT Services Yalavarthy Srinivas. Having gained experience of 16 years in the US, Mr. Srinivas came back and started operations in Guntur with the objective of creating quality IT jobs locally. Along with D. Ramakrishna, managing director of the city-based Efftronics Systems Ltd and several others, Mr. Srinivas formed the Krishnaveni Information Technology Association to bring software firms to the park. They had raised the issue of addressing the cost factor, marketing strategies and transportation facilities to the IT park at various fora. The L&T HiTech City Ltd, a joint venture of the L&T Info City Ltd. and the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC), developed the IT park. âThe L&T officials should address issues of cost and other factors so as to attract more firms and living quarters should be provided inside the park as it is 30 km from the city,â said Mr. Srinivas. D. Ramakrishna of Efftronics said local administration and the L&T should launch a marketing strategy to attract major software firms. http://www.hindu.com/2011/05/19/stories/2011051965420100.htm |
