goals are important cuz they drive change. no change, man perishes and starts worrying about the meaning of life. change has to be infinitesimal but measurable not delta but epsilon. and then one needs a 5 yr goal so daily tension thappudhi. when the mind is devoid of a thought(goal), it wanders and ponders. | ||

Enjoy the present, the past is gone and set in stone,Dont have any regrets, just learn from it and apply for a better present and future. The best way to be happy is to be content with what is there and celebrate the good. Life can be cruel in its mysteriousness and lack of a meaningful frame of reference. Enjoy the present. Just be happy. I have my reservations on the whole live your day like it is your last. Life is so existential , it makes sense only when we are alive, after death, living your life in whatever way has no meaning unless upon death you are given a 3D view of your life and given a "Shabaash!" for a job well done. Happiness and suffering are both relative terms, not absolute.They are relative to a personal mean, driven by your expectations  Most philosophies teach to you to set that mean low, even 0, so that there is more likelihood of being above the mean What is above the mean(happiness) to one is below the mean(suffering) to another Definition of darkness is absence of light and vice-versa.If you cannot perceive light, you cannnot perceive darkness either. Similarly if you never know suffering you will not know happiness And you can see either suffering or happiness at a time, not both - hence the 2 sides of a coin Ofcourse you can say , apathy or not feeling anything is an option - but that would be Amitabh's coin in Sholay - highly improbable as a stable state unless someone is sensorily challenged When the definition of suffering is in your control - how can it be taken as a permanent fixture ? Hindu society lo okappudu Sanyasins had a great value. Getting alms was easy. It was a way of life for many. As a matter of fact, it should be the last phase in your life. It is not possible unless you are someone like Dalai Lama and someone else is working hard to put food on your table. Just for example, How many of us can say we are happy with where we are in our careers? Why struggle so hard to move up in our careers or get good pay hikes year after year? Why not settle for some position that gives you enough money to survive? Not possible, because we have other obligations in the form of family/kids/parents etc to meet. If you cut down on these obligations, it may be possible to live like Dalai Lama. | ||

The point I was trying to make was, you do appreciate the cup of coffee at that moment, but that is not sufficient enough to dispel the constant chatter/noise in your mind.. imagine getting lost in an outback....picture urself in the shoes of the protagonist in 127 hrs..you have no food for days, even if it meant eating spoiled food....the only water is what you have in your bladder...you are dying by the minute...u wish u had the courage to kill urself...at that point, u will see flashes of life from ur past.. imagine yourself getting locked up for life for a crime you did not commit....you've been confined to a dark room for years..all u see is a patch of sky from the ventilator.....you want to break free but u don't have a choice...u can't help but think abt a few memories frm ur life.... in both situations, the flashes that u see are simple joys of life..u don't picture urself as the richest guy on the planet..u will picture simple joys like kicking back in your couch and enjoying a cup of coffee, feeling the crisp evening breeze from ur patio, sharing a hearty laughter with ur wife, posting wotever comes to ur mind in db, watching ur favorite tv show et al we take all of these simple joys for granted and hence "devalue" life to its lowest....but when we do encounter a life changing situation, we'll realize how priceless those simple joys are..and how lucky we are to assume the life of a human....so whenever we are fed up with life, we need to step back and take a moment to appreciate life.. my $0.02 | ||
