Hyderabad, Oct 10, Agencies

The CBI is set to widen its dragnet to include more top bureaucrats, including IAS officers in Andhra Pradesh, for flagrant violations of forest, mining and transport laws to facilitate the illegal mining business of former Karnataka minister and mining baron Gali Janardhana Reddy, straddling both states, agency sources indicated on Monday.

The violations include issue of more than 20 lakh transit permits to the Obulapuram Mining Company owned by Gali and his brother-in-law B V Srinivas Reddy, who are Accused No 1 and 2 (A-1 and A-2) in the CBI’ probe into illegal mining in Andhra Pradesh. The issue of permits without visiting the mines leased to the company in 2007, 2008 and 2009, enabled it to fake export accounts.

The CBI on Saturday listed two bureaucrats, former Mining secretary Y Srilakshmi, IAS and former director of AP Mineral Development Corporation V D Rajagopal as A-3 and A-4 in the OMC case.
