For the first time, the single largest group of poor children in the U.S. isn't white. The 6.1 million Hispanic children who lived in poverty last year exceeded any other group, according to analysis of Census Bureau data by the nonpartisan Pew Research Center. In 2010, 37.3% of poor children were Latino; 30.5% were white and 26.6% were black. The negative milestone reached by Hispanics resulted from their distress amid the difficult economy coupled with their high birth rate, the Pew Report says. Poor children are less likely to complete high school or to enroll in college. Latinos represent 16% of the U.S. population and account for 23% of all children in the country, according to the 2010 U.S. Census. More taxes...your way.....
