Tenali_rk:The high school educated or lesser educated whose jobs are shipped are the real losers. They cannot get a meaningful employment.
which means they did not have meaningful employment in their last job also. there is always a percentage of population that is looking for jobs - fresh graduates, layoffs, businesses tanking etc. to appeal to this group govt starts providing benefits by dipping into the capital pool that would have created more jobs more efficiently. change is a continuous process and only market is smart enough to deal with it, not bureaucrats. Think about it this way - if you were a politician or an economist during the time when automobiles came along, what would you do to save horse carriage driver jobs and blue collar jobs depending on horse carriage business how is the china challenge any different ? you are losing money in wages to foreign workers but you are also exporting at the same time that is called trade balance and a country's goal has to be to keep the difference as close to 0 as possible keeping the net result of its effect on jobs minimal |

Where do think the higher unemployment numbers are coming from...The high school educated or lesser educated whose jobs are shipped are the real losers. They cannot get a meaningful employment...hence dependent on Food stamps, Unemployment insurance....which is borne by the Tax payers... The economists also found that higher exposure to Chinese imports led to larger increases in unemployment insurance, food stamps, disability payments and other government benefits. Those add up to big losses, they said, because the higher taxes the government must collect to pay for benefits, and the way benefits reduce people's incentive to work, makes the economy less efficient. the same report says imports from china as a share of total US spending is between 1 to 5% how many jobs is this 5% controlling even if you consider that the lost jobs are mostly blue collar jobs so the % may be higher but how about the jobs gained due to rearranged market efficiency towards better jobs in service, technology and innovation if some country is subsidizing something it is time for other countries to load up on that and focus their productivity in other areas some countries like US subsidize food production and some other countries like china subsidize labor if govt didnt interfere, this process of rearranging would happen naturally but because of politicians, media and some short sighted economists telling people they are "losing" those jobs, govt is forced to correct it ends up thwarting growth thus creating the real job loss |

Tallying the Toll of U.S.-China Trade For years, economists have told Americans worried that cheap Chinese imports will kill jobs that the benefits of trade with China far outweigh its costs. New research suggests the damage to the U.S. has been deeper than these economists have supposed. The study, conducted by a team of three economists, doesn't challenge the traditional view that trade is ultimately good for the economy. Workers who lose jobs do eventually find new work or retire, while the benefits from trade, such as lower prices, remain. The problem is the speed at which China has surged as an exporter, overwhelming the normal process of adaptation. The study rated every U.S. county for its manufacturers' exposure to competition from China, and found that regions most exposed to China tended not only to lose more manufacturing jobs, but also to see overall employment decline. Areas with higher exposure also had larger increases in workers receiving unemployment insurance, food stamps and disability payments. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142405297020401060457659 5002230403020.html A Snap Shot in a Picture http://si.wsj.net/public/resources/images/NA-BN459B_USJob_G_ 20110926193304.jpg Rajesh Post, 33027: Apaartham chesukune aadadhi, Artham chesukoleni magaadu DB lo vunna okate, lekunna okate
