After the CBI, it was the turn of the Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday to register cases against the YSR Congress president and Kadapa MP, Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy and Emaar Properties under the Money Laundering Act. According to ED sources, cases were registered under ECIR (Enforcement Case Information Report) based on the FIR issued by the CBI listing the same parties and individuals as accused. Earlier, the CBI had issued FIRs charging both Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy and Emaar under the same sections: Section 120B (criminal conspiracy) read with Section 420 (cheating), Section 409 (criminal breach of trust), 420 and 477A (falsification of accounts) of IPC. CBI has listed 74 as accused in the Jagan case and seven in the Emaar Properties case. The Enforcement Directorate’s entry in the scene means seizure of all properties of the accused, including bank accounts, making it difficult for the accused firms to continue their businesses. Once an FIR is issued, it’s mandatory for the Enforcement Directorate to file a chargesheet within 150 days. On conviction, the accused may get a minimum sentence of three years and a maximum of seven years with a fine of Rs 5 lakh. In the Hasan Ali case too, the ED seized 6,000 acres of property after issuing an FIR. The ED deputy director of the Hyderabad zonal office, Mr N. Sridhar, couldn’t be contacted as he was in Delhi in connection with the cases. Earlier, after the CBI filed an First Information Report, the residences and offices of the Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy, and offices of companies that had invested in his firms were simultaneously raided by CBI teams across the country on Thursday. A CBI team also raided the offices of Emaar-MGF office at Gachibowli. CBI sources said the agency also carried out searches of the company’s office in New Delhi. Jai NTR, Jai Jai TDP |
