gut feel tho velli chala debbalu tinnanu bro - can give many examples. probably I am the only one who lost money on Google! Google is a terrible investment if you did not get in in its early days, and try to time its ups and downs. There are many such examples: Akamai disaster. Verifone disaster. GE also if you bought in 30's - who would think! Chesapeak big disaster. Freeport mcMoran. The point is, all those above names are bluest of blue chips. I had a great feel for them. but still lost money. What I found is, feel investing is basically emotional investing. it may not work all the time. so, you got to understand the market. my 2cents. but ultimately what i believe is - do not listen to any one. ask for advice, but don't take it. do your thing. |

I understood that......thats why I said "misleading"......your statement about profits is true......bcos of preferred stock........but I guess most of the readers would think that it is because he got GS stock @ $90 and sold them at 50% profit..... anyways doesn't hurt to get the facts right...... I don't make ENEMIES with arguments......it all depends on them what they wanna be.....I just have my own style of irritating the crap outta others.....or at least try to do so......but the posts are almost always honest and they have a point in it I guess...... Its your choice how you wanna react to that.......I am absolutely fine with my style........rain or shine, I will keep running with it.... |

He still holds the warrants to buy GS common stock @ 115 on any day until 2013....currently that is underwater...... he might make money later if stock price goes above $115.....but it is misleading to think that he made money in GS transaction by buying the common stock at $90 and then sold it at 50% premium.... |

based on how i understood buffett's move today, gold rally is done for now. unless some new mess crops up. the fear factor in equities is gone. people are going to think : if buffett threw 5Bn into the lousiest stock on the earth (according to many), we cannot be wrong in buying many good companies. so, I kept a buy order for gold in mid 160s and poola sokka esukuni kookunings. |

Entikaburlu:emayya - Buffett gurinchi emi telusani peddayana meeda ala noru paresukuntav.. Cheppedi vinu: What you see in Buffett's action is 10% What you do not see but have to figure out his move is 90%. It takes really astute mind to figure out the meaning of his actions. This is also compounded by the fact that only rarely, such as today's action, the public knows his action. Otherwise, his actions will be knoen to public a quarter alter. Here are some of his actions that I personally know, and feel astonished after understanding the inner meaning. 1) back in 2008, he sold a big chunk of PTR (Petro China) first and completely exited slowly without a whimper. He exited at 270. In three months, it came down to 90, because Oil went down terribly. I was stuck with PTR with a loss for a long time. 2) slightly afterwards, he exited H&R Block quietly. Only later we knew H&R was the first co. to suffer from the subprime mortgage lending. Rest is history as we all know. 3) later one nice afternoon when dow tanked and George Bush came on TV, he invested 5Bn in GS, a few months later he had more than 50% profit and a nice chunk of the company at $90 4) Today he put money into the most beaten Bank Co. Why? Here is why: When everybody and his pet cat is buying Gold, he is buying a Bank. He is demonstrating his "Fear vs Greed" principle. He is following his play book! Can't you see it!! MONEY IS MADE IN DOWN MARKET ONLY!! When you are running away in Fear from Banks, he is showing Greed. Now this will also make people sit and make them think twice about their Gold pursuit. I can emphatically say, Buffett has put a kaibosh on Gold for now. This is the reason I exited UGL today, and added to my GLL. Buffett is going to walk away with 50% gain on his 5Bn and also a nice chunk of BAC at 7.10 when the dust settles. Stay humble, stay foolish, stay hungry.
