TIMES OF INDIA-KRANTHI REVIEW Story: NTR is an orphan whose parents sacrificed their lives for the welfare of the orphan community. He is raised by the a mafia gang and he is like a brother to all orphans. He serves the entire colony without seeking anything in return. In one incident, Jagan (Rahul Dev) the right hand of Ganesh ( Prakash Raj) kidnaps CM's son and kills him. CM enquires about a person who can seek revenge for him and finds NTR. But NTR kidnaps CM in return and joins Ganesh Gang. The rest of the story is all about how he demolishes Ganesh Gang with no proof. NTR: NTR is good in this film. The change we notice in NTR performance compared to his earlier films is the subtleness in histrionics during sentimental scenes. He is terrific in the dances of 1st song. He has just a single punch per person which makes his action scenes unique.It is very difficult for any actor to emote with eyes, facial expressions and body language but he does with ease. He has a two-minute dialogue in the second half, which he has delivers with terrHeroines: Tanisha is restricted to the second half of the film. She dons the character of a exposing belle and does good justice to it. Hansika is gorgeous with her cute looks and glamorous outfits in songs. She is restricted to the first half. Koelpuri does an item song which creates heat for front benchers. Director:Story by Ravi Shankar is taken from Ravi's Kannada film 'Barthingu' that had PrithiviRaj playing the lead role. It appealed to the people as it had Prithvi in the lead role and surprised and shocked the viewers with a normal orphan seeking revenge in a gory style. But the same kind of shock feel would certainly be missing if a hero and that too a huge star commits it. Meher Ramesh who is known as the assistant to Puri, successful maker of mass masalas has chosen a hackneyed storyline and seen-before kind of shots to narrate the film. He starts off the film in an interesting fashion but loses his grip immediately after 15 minutes. Screenplay of the film is loose. Direction is old-fashioned. He should have avoided the scene where the villain chops off the head of a orphan kid who is ••••••• in the rain. There is no explanation given as to why hero uses broken knife to take revenge (as there is no connection of broken knife with the flashback). Other departments: Music by Mani Sharma is great. Two songs (Vayassunami and 123 nenoka Kantri) are impressive on the screen. Dialogues are adequate. Artwork for sets is good. Fights by Vijay are sufficient. Production values by Ashiwini Dutt banner are good. Analysis: Movie starts off in an interesting style with a good introduction of the hero. But this graph slides down as the movie progress. First half of the film is mediocre. Interval card is flashed with 'Take a ChillPill'. The second half is unimpressive. Performance by NTR is the plus point of the film. The producer seems to have concentrated more on getting an impressive star cast than getting the right script. NTR disappoints with wrong choice of subject for 'Kanthri'. This film has opened with great collections but we should see them sliding downwards soon. |
