Regarding the DEBT, we should be looking at capacity to pay back the loan, NOT THE LOAN ITSELF. Eg. if I have 500K house and I have 100K salary, I still be able to pay the mortgage over the years. At the same time if I have 10K salary, I cann't afford 500K house. US is having 500K loan on a 100K salary and India or other 3rd world countries are having 500K with 10K salary. | ||

Fed, RBI etc. When govt needs money, they ask their central bank- oka 100Bn kottu guroo tyfe lo. appudu central bank does one of two things/ It calcualtes the year-to-date growth in the country's economy (GDP rate) and prints new money to the extent the economy has grown. If the request is met be this new money, they will give it. If the govt asks again, and if they cannot print, what they do is, they print a debt paper (they call them Treasury Bills or Notes or Bonds, depending on the terms) instead. Anyone can give cash to the central bank and take the treasury note home. You get the T-note, fed takes your money and gives to the govt. In otherwords, you have lent your money to the nation. The T-Note amounts usually run into dozens of billions, so the clients for them are other country central banks. That is how small countries end up loaning the money to big countries. why small countries or developing nations? Most of the times, developing countries are net importers from developed countries. They import stuff like weaponry, pharma, aeroplanes, entertainment, software, automobiles, industrial inputs etc. they have to pay for them in the developed countries' currency. but the rate will be changing up and down. so, to hedge against the fluctuation, all central banks maintain a treasury position against all their trading partners. but why parking it idle? so they look for the most safest ultra-low-risk AAA rated borrower. also, at the same time, the US govt outspends itself and keep looking for people/companies/countries that can buy their t-notes. that is where lender meets the borrower.
