assuming direct taxes are the only way for govt to function, which isn't, shouldn't there be a distinction between for profit and non profit organizations ? i mean tomorrow if i want to start a free school for the orphans, should i really be taxed for my income which i would rather use to expand ? the problem we have is with shady operations in the name of charity outfits. to control that keeping the accounts open will open public's eyes towards what goes on there. if the same puttaparthy showed a net balance of 0 with the expense sheet made public, who has a problem with it ? these are the things that went wrong with saibaba- 1) No protection for whistle blowers/critics of baba 2) Exemption from income and expense audit (i see this is where most want it taxed instead of audited) 3) Exemption from legal investigation in civil and criminal matters of ashram of course i am not defending donga babas but in the fear of them we shouldn't forsake the autonomy and integrity of well meaning charities. http://thepeoplescube.com/images/Brain_Socialist_Democrat.png | ||

Bill Gates is under no obligation to do charity to others.. so no point in criticizing him on that angle.. whatever you get is his gift and be happy for it.. Similarly, people are under no obligation to donate to babas or popes.. if they still donate thinking it would give them even more wealth, well.. go for it.. more power to the miracle sellers.. the only thing problematic to us is Govt making these "charity" stuff tax-free.. that, you honor, is looting and should be protested heavily.. if that is non-taxable, then they should give everybody a tax-break.. i dont know how much of windows is copied from mac but i think not enough for apple to sue. steve jobs makes products for himself and he thinks anyone who doesnt like his product is an idiot. kind of like our rgv. windows made products for layman and sold it aggressively. they won fair and square. apple cries sour grapes.
