if you sure hd is creating problems then go the manufacturer website and download diagnostic software for that disk. it usually comes as bootable image. burn it. boot from it and run the tests. some times bios offers these tests. check that first. | ||

then there should not be a problem... check the installation cd... if possible try to use another xp installation disk. | ||

HD is being detected mama. Even when I boot with CD for windows installation, it recognises the HD and formats it for fresh install.. Ee wires gatraa try chestha. Drive was 140 GB.. I am struck by the lightning of love and burnt beyond repair - Florentino Ariza | ||

I had a Dell Dimension E521 Desktop. Yesterday I was trying to reformat the HD and install fresh XP. After intial setup and formatting the drive, the computer reboots and hangs with the message "Error reading disk" Press ctrl+alt+del to reboot and this happens in a loop.. Is my HD dead? I had this machine for 4 years now. Any clues to what might be happening. Ninna one more disaster, I had a 1 TB external HD connected to the PC and by mistake, I formatted that for the first time. Lost all the data I have collected over years  I had a partial back up on other drive. Still lost many of my movies.. Bought a compaq console yesterday running Win 7 - so ippudu okay. Want to sell the dimension box after correcting the error and XP install, otherwise sell it for parts.. Any advice is appreciated..
