babu 15k shipping cost yekada padesaru so 55k including shipping cost... if u had paid the tax as a new item then it would have cost u another 15k so 55k + 10k(minus the tax already paid) so it will almost cost 65k... | ||

Though its bit lengthy, it has very minute details, will help who are in similar lines. (copied from a diffirent forum) = = = = = = = I thought this would help somebody who might be in a similar situation I was in couple of months ago. I came to INDIA on a two-month trip to take care of my father who had an accident. I am also searching for jobs but so far no success. Nevertheless, I wanted to post my shipping experience. I wanted to take an LED Tv with me as It is very costly comparatively in INDIA. Also, I wanted to make sure that when my dad gets better, he can enjoy the tv. I wanted to send just the TV. But AIR INDIA cargo, the one I picked after a lot of search has a minimum weight limit of 100ks (220 lbs) for a price of $350. So I decided to send along with the TV, my ONKYO home theater system and some other items. All in 5 boxes including the tv. TV : SONY KDL46EX600 --- 46" LED TV -- Cost $720 All the other itmes were used. AIR INDIA Cargo goes through Menezies Aviation in Chicago. Called them Up and they told me to drop boxes off on a weekday before Lunch. So took a day off, drove to their office near Ohare Airport, filled some paperwork, paid $350 cash and came back. Our flight to chennai was two days later. I was supposed to get it by sunday the same week. I dropped them on monday. But I knew given AIR INDIA service, I really wouldnt be getting it by sunday. They actually took almost 3 weeks. One week was wasted in Delhi. I am supposed to pick them up at chennai. So when I was informed about their arrival, I went to the International cargo office near chennai airport. I went there on saturday only to be told that the customs office is closed that day due to mahaveer jayanti. So came all the way back to tirupati empty handed. I went again on wednesday the following week. As soon as I got down from my van, a guy approached me asking me if I need to clear some goods and I said Yes. Immediately, he started explaining me the process and started doing the paperwork. Man, So much Paper work.!!!! So the next 3 hours was spent by the guy who ran around to each officer getting their signatures. Finally, the guy came back to me and signalled that package is ready for customs inspection. I filled up paperwork stating the value of the TV, Home theater and other stuff at 27000 rs. I was told by the agent that it is best for me to take Transfer of residence. So I took it. There were three officers and several other helpers. So they scanned my personal goods. So they started saying that that the TV looks brand new. But I argued that it isnt and it has been used for a year. The Poor AIR INDIA service actually helped me in that the Brand NEW TV package had accumulated so much dust over the previous three weeks that the package looked very used )... Amazingly, they agreed finally and put the value of the goods at 28000 rs of which I had to pay 15% ( roughly 4200 rs ) and I had to pay demurrage charges as I had kept the luggage at the airport for a week which cost 1500 rs. So a total of 5700 rs was spent. So the Total cost came down to ( $720 * 44 = 31680 + 5700 + 3000 (van cost) ~40000) Got them home to tirupati. TV SET UP : TV is a 100-240v tv, 135 w peak, LED tc. 1. Voltage stabilizer : Power Guard (300 watt - 300 rs ) 2. Maxine 220 - 110 v step down transformer ( 200 watt - 800 rs) 3. APC power suppressor strip from usa Even though I dont need a step down transformer, I used it for now. May be I will remove it later..... I started researching on Satellite Dish Options that will work for NTSC TV. I went to SunDirect office in town and they said that they know that SD version of the set top box will work with the NTSC TV as there is an option in it. But they were not sure of the HD version. I wanted HD version as the incremental costs are not high other than the initial 2000rs difference. So I told them to get both the boxes and try them out . SO they hooked up the HD STB into the TV and voila, it worked directly with just an hdmi connection. NO CONVERTERS needed. Again my model is Sony KDL46EX600. The Signal is 1080i. Absolutely Fantastic. IPL in HD is simply marvellous!!!! Telugu and Tamil HD movies are really good. Now If I can get a job in finance/asset management, it will be great. It will be a successfull trip. I went to local SONY store and they quoted me 1,10,000 rs for the similar tv. A difference of 70,000 rs. Hard to ignore.
