1. Well shot. But bad art direction. The Shakti Peeth looked like a pack of cards - with cheap lighting. And, pray tell me why all that colorful stuff inside the cave that's closed for years? A much better art philosophy would have been to show the cave as full of cobwebs etc... would have lent some authenticity and a divine eeriness to the narrative. Now it looks comical. 2. When do we get to graduate from "One Rescue Wins the Girl's Heart" paradigm? 3. For all the seriousness surrounding the subject, the way Ileana was behaving was totally out of place. Of course you can't expect a Telugu movie heroine to be intelligent but this girl could not have had an IQ of more than 10. 4. SPB - Please stop acting. You are a genius in singing. Completely agree. But you are a pathetic actor. Admit it and be behind the scenes always. 5. The Egyptian episode makes no sense at all. In the late 80's there were no Kings in Egypt. And they had cars by then. This portrayal would have made sense had the time period been 327 BC. 6. The cheap graphics in the climax actually made it an anticlimax. 7. The concept was good. Had lots of potential. But the insane urge on the director's part to bring all the usual masala into the screenplay has completely ruined the movie. What was Jackie Shroff doing in the movie? What was Vinod Kumar thinking? Why o Why Brahmanandam had to be put in that security specialist role. For all the secure talk he does in the movie, the actual security provided was as bland as his bald head and yes! it is a "Blink and you miss it" sequence. I am not nitpicking. Such foolish sequences completely mar the experience. You have a very serious plot... The girl ruins it first. And then you realize it is not just the girl - everyone is doing their bit to ruin your experience and then the grand realization dawns upon you slowly - It is the fault of the director. Here's the plot of the movie if you take out the superficial elements 1. One dunderhead heroine with 10 sahelis 2. One grand entry of the hero 3. An introduction fight for a very silly thing. 4. A tiff between the heroine and the hero 5. A prank by the heroine turns ugly. 6. Wonder of wonders! the hero saves the heroine 7. The heroine is floored. She realizes the hero is her soul mate. Swiss calling. 8. Now that the love angle is established, the real plot element unfolds. 9. Villains come for the girl and something else. 10. Hero bashes the goons. 11. Villains come for the girl and something else. 12. Hero bashes the goons. 13. Villains come for the girl and something else. 14. Hero bashes the goons. 15. Grand flashback revealed and in that flashback... 16. Villains come for the same something else. 17. Hero bashes the goons. 18. Villains come for the same something else. 19. Hero bashes the goons. 20. Oh it is the flashback! So the hero has to die. He dies duly. But not before his wife delivers his son. She dies duly afterwards. 21. End of flashback. You know who this present day hero is. If you don't, you are better off watching Kannada movies. 22. Climax now. The hero bashes goons. Hero gets shot left right and center but then divine water brings him back to his senses. 23. Hero bashes goons. 24. Hero bashes goons. 25. Hero bashes goons. 26. Sarve janaa sukhino bhavantu. Now, here's some homework for you. How many movies have you seen with the same plot element? Not that every movie needs to have a brand new plot but most successful movies have an element of surprise cleverly packaged somewhere in the narration which is creative. This movie neither has a plot that enthralls you nor does it wow you with its narration. All that it makes you is to shake your head and feel a bit of nostalgia and a byte of Deja Vu. Been there, seen that! The old NTR dies of a similar wound that the young NTR gets. But the young NTR survives because of course Telugu folks don't like tragic endings. But then, Telugu audience don't like tragic experiences for them - And watching this movie is a really tragic experience for the viewer. You need not try to cram all the usual stuff into the narration in the name of "mass". Hope our directors learn this basic fact of movie making. B and C center audience are not fools. dEvO mahEsh roopENa: Superstar Mahesh Rocks! |
